    The way I understand it:

Tracy Hickman wrote the prose for the story Richard Garriot outlined. Hickman was hired and paid for what might be considered "ghost writing" if he had not lent his name (and credibility) to the cover of the novel (of which there are two versions).

As early as March 27th, players have immersively role played "jumping the shark" and "swimming to off shore accounts".

I will admit that I am still very curious on the form Episode 2 will take.

Don't compare smoking with SOTA. One is an unhealthy habit that costs a lot of money and reduces your life expectancy, and the other is just a way to relax.

Don't compare smoking with SotA. One is money laundering scheme, the other is a boost to the country's revenue that eats away at the health of its citizens.

Doesn't LB always tell the story of the evolution of games: First it was single player games, then it was multiplayer games, then it was MMOs, and then it was supposed to be social games...oops.

It's actually their smartest move yet.

    I am serious.

This might severely increase the player base ; it will not affect the existing users gameplay wise and only will give them more people to interact with. It might generate more traction, more player interaction more feedback and generally more interest. Which means more money. Also, it might isolate the current insane & hardcore player base with an influx of new blood. It might be what this game most needs.

Don't mistake my review for what it wasn't, I merely described the game in the state I played it and my high doubts that it could achieve to become something else. I doubt this move is going to be enough to save the game, but at least it was the necessary thing to do.

All MMOs go F2P if they struggle.
    That isn't exactly unexpected.

But like taxalot, I doubt it will do much in this case.

I don't know if smart is the best way to describe it. They had to do it. You think anyone was spending $45 (or more! lol) on this anymore? They would've kept charging people if they could but now I guess they need to get people into the game any way they can before they are able to monetize them.

The price of the boxed game on Amazon has also been reduced from $80 to $50.

Shroud of the Avatar in a messy metaphor:
There exists a stick with a string holding a carrot in view. Some players chase after that carrot, never reaching the carrot, not knowing why they want the carrot, not knowing what that carrot actually is but always believing the carrot to fulfill something.

I question the timing of this. If the planned new journal/quest tracking had been implemented players would enjoy Episode 1 story with the most polish and might buy into episode 2.

    This is a pain point.

I've waited 4 years for my box and cloth map. If I were to order it from Amazon and receive the Amazon order before my pledge reward ... ouch.

This guy is not afraid to spend money to avoid "hard work" in his games. What's so wrong with paying shipping twice ?

The frustration comes from the address verification software used to verify account holder's address to ship the physical rewards to. This software un-verified previously verified addresses. Mine included.

I had expected to receive my box and cloth map with the first shipment.
