r u sure about that, bro?

The ability to nom their souls to get stronger makes you a great asset in a war against dragons :M. There is a wall in the game depicting a prophecy of sorts that speaks of Alduin's defeat, but afaik any Dragonborn or strong Thu'um user would work. The protagonist just happens to be the available one.

DraQ I think "sought by the guard" is a little too strong a plothook, as it would "force" players to do the main quest.

Clockwork Knight: OR... you are just a guy from the vast imperial prison system who fulfilled all the conditions of the prophecy that were known to the emperor.

    Pawn wanted!

Needs to be born from unknown parents.
Responsibilities include fulfilling an ancient prophecy.
High likelihood of failure, death and/or getting infected by hideous incurable disease

People of any sex or race may apply.

Contact possible via any daedric summoning service on 21st of First Seed.
    :M

Judging from all the failed incarnates Azura might have just as well been flinging disposable pawns at the problem until one stuck.

If a godlike being is selecting people to do a job for her, they are "chosen ones", even if she's picking seemingly at random. The fact Azura is motivated by boredom / butthurt doesn't change this :troll:

Yeah, but then we get into a "but what if it was just a coincidence????" argument that won't go anywhere, since that's how self-fulfilling prophecies work. We need a hero to defeat this ancient evil, you send the guy most apt for the job, turns out he defeats the ancient evil.

Morrowind had a certain ambiguity attached to the main char and the prophecy, insofar as it never really said: "You are the chosen one, only you can save us".
Rather the story made it seem more as if was just as much about becoming the chosen one through your actions, as being born one.
That also seemed to be the intention of the emperor - send a dude there that might turn out to be the Nerevarine and sets the shit straight (probably under influence/controll of the empire).

It doesnt matter if you were or not, you were a regular joe to most people and it was trough your actions that you gained some sort of relevance.

Its hard to describe because im talking about the "feel" of the game. Plus im pretty sure that even if you have not unlocked the dragons. some daedric princes will still call you Dragonborn, could be wrong tho.

I see so many mods that make enemies stronger and weapons more deadly, and i cant help feeling that it goes against the lore of the game, you are the Dragonborn, you are supposed to be stronger than the regular joe, able to master all the skills in a matter of days when it took decades to the best of the best. I think the piss easy difficulty of the game is intentional, not only to catter to casuals but as a way of showing you just how overpowering this figure you are playing is. i doubt the dragonborn is hailed with such a respect for just being able to imitate the power of some good spells with his voice. They even got a song for you:M

I'm not sure Bethesda would be able to fill a big city with content. Unless 99% of city is just prop boxes, like in GTA.

Hmm, would it work if every town in Oblivion is converted into a district of Imperial City?

I think that's pretty debatable. The tech they had at the time didn't seem up to handling a large, bustling city no matter how much the game world was built around that. They already split the city into smaller areas and they still felt empty and vacant.

How so? All that happens in the opening is the emperor is killed and he asks you to prevent the repercussions. If you ignore him nothing ever happens, no Oblivion gates start spawning unless you follow the main quest.

Meh... if you ignore the MQ you can travel the entire game world with very little sense of urgency or ignoring an imminent threat. I guess Kvatch could be an exception, I'm not sure how the dialog works there if you haven't delivered the necklace yet, but it's still one small part of the game world.

If you go to Kvatch before delivering the amulet, you just won't know that Martin is important (he'll stay in the camp with the other survivors), and no other gates will open until you deliver the amulet.

Schrödingers prophecy; unless you actively pursue your role as the Chosen Hero, the catastrophic events that will require a hero never occur in the first place.
What is the true story of the game?

Yeah, Kvatch was one of the high points of the game for me. (There were so fucking few).

Anyway, this is why i recommend dins curse, it subverts the Schrödingers prophecy.

:cmcc: i dont have to explain to you that in a game made of shit an average is a good thing.

Except Kvatch wasn't average. It was shit too and it happened to be the kind of shit that ran at odds with the philosophy underlying the whole game creating ludicrous results.

You know what was the relatively good part of the MQ in OB? "Joining" the Mythic Dawn.

At the beggining, till the end it turned into banal "somonez wantz to destoyz our guildz", still probably only one (besides shivering isles) reason to give oblivious a try
btw what happened to that Chris Priestly clone Emil? Havent heard about him since Failout 3

Kvatch is p. cool if you go there at a very high level. The fucked level scaling actually does something good for once, filling the place with strong daedra that could actually quickly bring a city down (as opposed to the army of stunted scamps that a noob character gets), so you have the intended atmosphere. Interestingly, some road patrols arrive to help if the kvatch city guard gets wiped out, unique dialogue and all. It's the sort of thing you don't expect Beth to implement.

Dark Brotherhood has some high points. So does the Thieves Guild at parts. Shivering Isles is entertaining and at least interesting as a world.

Oblivion is rotten to the core though, all those things are acceptable, never good.

Yeah, by the time i went there i was over 50, felt cool. actually done kvatch only once, as every time i played skyrim i just used the game to do fan quests.
Getting into the mythic dawn felt kinda retarded, bullshitty and linear, and the fact that i couldnt kill the bloke at the end, because he HAD to escape was really aggravating.

Yes, there's no other difference between being chosen by some random king to investigate leads and being blessed the same way the last ascended mortal-god was.

    Indeed.

Hello, I'm the chosen one appointed by destiny itself, I'm pretty unique. Using my awesome set of skills, I defeat the ancient evil and save everyone. Just as the scriptures predicted.

Hello, I'm some random guy that picked the short straw, I'm pretty average. Using my everyman set of skills, I defeat the ancient evil and save everyone. It was just luck, I swear!
