Skyrim is worse than Oblivion in every way

You can RP the Warrior, Mage and Rogue type; the Stormdick or Imperial and Badie/Good Guy the game was somewhat improve over total blandness of Cyrodil turned into Southern England and Bandits in Glass Armour with toned down level scalling and Skyrim being more into Imperial Guide Volume 1 but its still Good Quality Hike Simulator when you rape it with tons of mods; If you want to play real RP pick Drakensang River of Time its only real AA Medieval like RPG released in last 3 years... and there's Fallout New Vegas if you can stomach ugly and buggy Gamebryo engine. There're also indies like Knights of the Chalice too but they're more games for combat-fags.

So I finally embraced the popamole and got TEH GREATEST PC GAEM IN HUMAN HISTORY. Now with DRAGONS!!!!! I didn't want to take a few months off work to read the entire megathread so most or all of what I'm about to say might have been posted before.

It's worse than Oblivion in nearly, but not completely every way. With all the insane hype and reviews, I did expect a disappointment. But this is literally just Oblivion with better graphics, a much better designed world and massively dumbed down to the point of not being an ARPG anymore. In other words: MAJESTIC. If you consider it an adventure game it makes more sense. Also the dumbest interface in recent gaming history. Also also, destruction magic is so overpowered (or weapons underpowered), it makes weapons essentially pointless. I'm just running around like a Sith lord electrocuting everything from bandits to dragons or frying them with my palm-mounted jet engines. I haven't got that far in, only just got the quest to go to Riften for the first time, but I have a question.

What the FUCK is wrong with giants in this game?? They are comically buggy. They always instakill me on the first hit (which might be reasonable, they are giants after all) but they also send me flying a few hundred meters in the air every time. What's up with that?

So, since I've only played Oblivion before, I'm considering starting from Arena and finishing the first 3, or should I not waste my time and just go for Morrowind, the Kodex Konsensus seems to be that it's the best one in the series.

Seriously. It's the way how damage works: the more overkill damage is dealt the farther you are knocked back. And since Giants do a LOT of damage aimed downwards, the physics engine acts up and turns you into Viking Buzz Aldrin.

 

Well, don't melee them?
Just fire arrow from afar?
Amusing when I see people expect to melee against Giants and get rocked.

 

Yeah, read the post again. I'm not complaining about getting killed, I'm complaining about the retarded comedy physics. Coincidentally, melee-ing a dragon, which should be far more powerful than a giant, (and in terms of HP they do seem to be) is p. easy, no catapulting into the wild blue yonder.

 

Giants beat quite a few kinds of wyverns in combat. (Un)fortunately they do not turn them into lizard Sputniks.

 

Giants and Mammoths don't scale to your level.

 

Are you playing with the latest official patch and unofficial patch? On the highest difficulty?

It's funny how you find magic overpowered since the most recurring complaint by beth fans, certainly on the official forums is that the magic is severely underpowered. You must not be a very high level yet.

It really is an action adventure game. The dialogue is a fucking checklist for pete's sake. In such a respect I must say that Oblivion really isn't better than this one. They're on equal footing but Oblivion is the real big offender. Skyrim might be bad but it's not as offensive to me. Besides that we have requiem, and I don't think Oblivion has an equivalent. It's probably not worth the 2000 hours of development time.

Requiem is really the way the game should have shipped.

 

I did say I wasn't very far in (level 10). It's on Steam so it's automatically updated. Haven't started dicking around with any mods yet, it's the completely vanilla game with all official DLC (legendary edition).

Also like I said, maybe the weapons are just super useless because I find the magic much more powerful. Everything still seems to have a ton of hitpoints, although not as bad as Oblivion. I can either bash them for like a minute with my Elven Mace, or Emperor Palpatine them to death in a few seconds. But yeah that might change at higher levels. I'm just not convinced that this game is better than Oblivion. Especially all the waifu Hearthfire stuff making it more like Fable doesn't do the game any good in my books.

 

Get SkyUI and Requiem and save yourself the misery of playing the vanilla game any further.

 

I experienced similar comedy, when reaching 100 in the "block" skill. The last shield runner perk let's opponents fly away at least 5-10 meters. Even in narrow passages you just press the correct key combinations and out of sudden enemies fly away in all directions. Though I admit it's kinda cool when opponents fly over a castle wall.

 

Well, Requiem can admittedly be pretty good at putting you out of your misery.

No, we're comparing a game that works just fine modded with one not worth modding in the first place.

Are u talking about the level scaling? There's a mod for that. Are u talking about the plot or the questlines?

oblivion modded > skyrim unmodded. skyrim modded = oblivion modded.

Everyone that says otherwise is a graphic whore popamole. Credit were credit is due, to the great modding community of both games.... is what id like to say, but overhauls are def. better on skyrim and the whole thing is overall (slightly) more stable.

For all its failings Skyrim has at least somewhat decent gameworld and not too botched lore to keep you interested.
That's a good enough reason to invest effort into making it better via mods.

Oblivion OTOH is terminally boring genericfantasyland that shouldn't have been genericfantasyland in the first place, in addition to being a major rape of its own setting. Oh, and it's full of inane tuber people.
Sure, you can mod it, but what for if the original is 100% unsalvageable?

 

Skyrim was technically dumbed down even more the prequel but it portrayed the province as it is described in lore and it introduces conflict and agenda outside the retarted main story line. (I mean of course Civil War). It is not TWitcher of course but I liked how it seemingly points you toward one faction only to later reveal that the picture is more Gray and Gray like. As Oblivion goes you were sidekick for real hero and had to converse with fullly and dully voiced Bloomfull Potato faces which was far more hellish experience than visiting inside Oblivion gates.

 

Depends on which lore you mean. Skyrim (the province) is also very tiny compared to what it should be.

 

never paid attention to neither of both worlds, i just use them as a launching plattaform for user made quests.

But then quality of either game is irrelevant to you, so don't opine on them.
