Wood Elves are short, noone likes that.

Forced 3rd person killcams ruined Skyrim for me, for such an intrusive thing to have no toggle despite all the remasters is unforgivable.
I absolutely fucking hate the killcams too.
I have had so many instances where I snuck up on a group with the intent of quickly eliminating all of them with an ambush...
Only to get locked into a killcam that lets all of them get ample time to notice me and counterattack...
And in heavily modded playthroughs, you're probably dead by the time you regain control.

That said, there is a mod called VioLens, that lets you configure them to a high degree.

Probably the only genuine improvement in Skyrim over Oblivion gameplay wise is horse combat. And I like that the magic system went back to the Morrowind style of "equipping" spells in your hands rather than pressing the magical "cast" button like in Oblivion, with a few interesting gameplay possibilities like sword and spell or dual-casting spells.

But outside of those minor things, Skyrim is just the absolute worst.

Talk as much shit about Oblivion as you want (it definitely deserves it), gameplay wise it still had most of the rpg systems from Morrowind, with various levels of complexity removed. Skyrim is just completely and totally devoid of gameplay entirely except for the extremely lackluster combat, to the point where you literally have to have brain damage in order to enjoy it for more than a few days before getting bored.

Oblivion at least made bare minimum attempts to be an RPG. Any sense of immersion or roleplay was stripped from Skyrim completely.

I'll never forget leaving Helgen and going to Riverwood waiting for the class selection screen to pop up.
I made it to Whiterun when I finally realized it wasn't happening.

When playing Skyrim I noticed a quirk with how slopes are computed. It allows going up mountains that weren't meant to be passable, even with mashing the 'up' button. Basically you need to zig-zag at an almost perpendicular angle to the direction of the slope you want to reach. Steeper the slope, larger the angle required.

One thing I noticed is that it's even applicable in real life, when going down steep slopes.

It's literally how cyclists take hills. You can watch the Tour de France and see them all doing it. You're increasing the distance traveled along the x axis while the height of the y axis remains the same, so it's a gentler slope.

I hope TES 6 will have the Dark Souls roll. Spamming rolls in first person view will be amazing.
If you genuinely think Bethesda is remotely interested in innovating in any way in the TES series (or any series, for that matter), you haven't been paying attention.

Anyone expecting TES6 to not just be a worse version of Skyrim is in for some major disappointment.

There is nothing worse than a combat roll. It's literally the dumbest idea in the history of video games, which probably explains its brush-fire like popularity. Sure, in the history of medieval combat, someone probably rolled here and there, to escape a charging horse or get out of a crumbling building or something, but to have it as your default defensive move takes a special kind of retardation. Yeah, buddy, you rolling will really outrun a sword tip, and you won't get too tired doing it or anything, and it won't disorient you.

Realism simps need to be taken out back behind the chemical sheds and shot in the head. Maybe then they will realise you can't respawn in real life, and so therefore must hate all those "good" games where they mashed the quickload key after failing every encounter while crying about "REALISM" on forums.

Anti-realism morons seem upset. But who cares.

Realism doesn't mean you have to copy every single aspect of reality. Obviously, some of them have to be changed/sacrificed in order to make for a more pleasant experience. But certain shit does have to be realistic, or you might as well put on a clown suit and roll around in the circus.

This argument is part of the reason why gaming is in such a sorry state right now. Please stop. You're only making it worse.

Realism can serve a purpose. You don't have to tutorialise gravity or weapon reloading. People naturally understand it because it's how it is in real life. But having realism as a "goal" only stifles your gameplay design, messes up game balance, and generally makes everything worse.

Realism is part of the reason why so many games are absolutely insane power fantasies these days. Because as soon as shooting someone once doesn't instantly kill them, morons go on forums or make Youtube videos talking about realism. And then everything becomes Call of Duty.

Realism has its place in simulator-style games, like Train Simulator or Kingdom Come: Deliverance, but it has no place in the vast majority of games. Double-jumping in platformers is also not "realistic", but it is hands down one of the best feeling mechanics in video games. Dodge rolls reward the player for having fast reflexes and being able to pre-empt the flow of combat, IE it rewards you for understanding the mechanics of the game.

Some games with great dodge rolls:
Dark Souls 1
Kingdom Hearts 2
Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth
Bayonetta.

These games would be measurably less fun without a dodge roll.

Call of Duty doesn't suck because one bullet kills, it sucks because it is a cinematic corridor shooter. Do you know what's not a corridor shooter? Reality.

This is nonsense. Dark Souls would be a lot better without a dodge roll. It already had good defensive mechanics like blocking, parrying, and dodge should've been done with an actual dodge (you know, like a sidestep) instead of the dumbass roll.

This is only true for Dark Souls 3, where the dodge roll is so OP that blocking or parrying is effectively useless 90% of the time. But in Dark Souls 1, the dodge roll complimented the rest of the systems very well. It was worth using but also had tradeoffs, not the least being equip load.

The Dark Souls roll? You must mean the Oblivion roll that Dark Souls ripped off from Todd Howard's genre-defining masterpiece.

Though from what I remember, using it in first-person is very clunky.

Did a playthrough recently with the Requiem mod alongside survival mode. What stuck out to me was how awful Skyrim is without fast travel. Whiterun has at least three quests that require you to go to both the far east and the far west side of the province, and even with the carriages taking you to the closest city-state, the actual objectives are over mountain ranges or deep in the wilderness, with either no easy way to get to them, or the path being badly marked. The Battle-Born rescue mission so me trek over the peaks Solitude and down the most circuitous route possible, and upon finishing, I realized I would have to trek all the way back up with depleted resources. After spelunking, I had to walk/ride all the way to the nearest city to sell the crap I accumulated, which was tedious and boring. Skyrim is clearly built around transporting around the map and playing any other way will make you bored even faster than thought possible. Oblivion had this problem too, but the scenery is a lot more varied, so there's at least always something new to look at. With Skyrim you have tundra, pine trees, and ice for miles.
