I still have some memory left, it seems. I had a faint recollection of doing that once years ago, but wasn't sure...

Falllout 2 remains unfinished to me. It's just not as good as F1 past certain point.

Between finishing Fallout 2 and Shira Oka or whatever that wapanese crap is called, I strongly recommend the former. But if you are really set into finishing the latter:

Yes, but if I remember right, if turrets kill him, it is still added to your kill list. Also, you have to kill President to reprogram turrets.

Not correct at all. It's all down to the quality of the GM (and the players to an extent), a talented GM will make for a seamless, liberated game where you can do whatever you want, notes or not. There is no way a scripted computer game can come close to that.

It's correct in the real world, with real people and not imaginary awesome players.

Then you're lucky. That sort of strong, collaborative group is about as hard to find as it is to make a game which simulates that experience.

This story (wall of text, though it's divided in several bits) shows a particularly awesome group effort, coupled with a DM that allows the group to have a good degree of freedom.

It loses steam after you are done with most New Reno and Vault City plotlines, yeah. By that point you're strong enough to tackle most things and other towns all look like boring hickvilles in comparison. When I found the vault with the deathclaws I was like "meh", though I suppose the game expected me to "whoa".

NCR and San Fran? Doesn't lose steam at all.

    Cool story, bro.

You'll have to excuse me, I guess I was somewhat gobsmacked by the amount of ignorance of Fallout and Fallout 2 in this topic, I sort of came to Codex to get away from cRPG ignoramuses (not saying you're one, but your comment was in that vein, IMO).

I'll guess I'll get over it, in time. Just surprising, that's all.

    +1 to Destroid's points.

This does not make you sound less butthurt, FYI.

Fallout 2 is probably my favorite RPG, but it does have weaknesses, an endgame with a bunch of filler being one of them. Hell, the tanker in San Francisco is filled with monsters for no real reason ("lol it was abandoned for a long time" doesn't count, questgiver guy) just so you can mow through them to get the key.

The kneejerk reactions of gifs and cries of "decline!" in this thread reminds me of what happens in IGN when you say Mass Effect is not so great. The fact the game(s) being "defended" is actually good doesn't change how this creates a circlejerking environment that actually favors the ignoramuses you're running from (just say Fallout is beyond perfect and anyone who says otherwise is a popamole decliner, and the locals will brofist you to death).

NCR was good. The New Reno-Vault City-NCR triad was the most interesting part of the game. But San Fran? It was underdeveloped and kinda boring. The fact thet it was one of the last areas in a large game, and came after the NR-VC-NCR part didn't help either. In latter playthroughs i usually skip or at least speed-run through the area. And for the record i'm one of those that like Fallout 2 more than Fallout. If San Fran was developed more so it was at New Reno levels, the whole late stage of Fallout 2 would be a much better experience.

    So?

Nitpicking. Not saying Fallout 2 is beyond reproach, anyway.

I'm over my little tizzy, I guess it just built up because it isn't just this topic that has ignoramuses. I guess it might just be time to put a few of them on ignore.

Yes, San Fran is weird. It appears out of nowhere, and is not connected or mentioned nearly anywhere else. I can't even remember who gives you location of it.

Eh, I don't think it's some great taboo to point out how Fallout's combat is kind of mediocre, how skills are unbalanced, and companions hurt you more often than they help you, and so forth.

To me, the truly surprising thing is that J_C can criticize Fallout's combat and door opening animations while defending the gameplay of Metro: Last Light in another thread. Somehow, takedown animations don't bother him there.

I suppose, but that's not what's being raged at for the last 16 pages though.

I thought San Fran was pretty well fleshed out (Shis, hubies, several sidequests, the BoS), and I think New Reno is overrated just because Avellone designed it.

Man, now I want to play Fallout 1 + 2 again. Finished them only once, I think.
