Mmh... Majesty 1 was like one of the best games ever. Funny as hell also :)

But err.. any word on the AI? I seem to remember that the AI in part 1 wasn't exactly... the sharpest tool in the shed.

  4. I'm looking forward to this more than any other game this year by far, and I'm terrified it won't be as good as the first.

I don't think the Russkies will be able to pull off the humorous, excellent atmosphere of the original game from what I've seen so far. They even designed the degenerate liberal Elven sodomites of the original game as boring "elegant" archetypical "High Elves". Bleh. Even though I liked what they did with the gameplay I kinda hated the bland, warcraftesque generic art design of Nival's Heroes V. It ain't that bad, it does have really good art in some areas but the atmosphere was just lacking especially as a Might&Magic game. It could've been better. And while the overly cartoony style of the Russian King's Bounty was fitting and cute, it also could have been much better if designed less in the Warcraft-like blocky gigantic pauldron style.

The Russkies making Disciples III REALLY knows their shit though. The art is fucking amazing. Q2 2009 Bitchez, ITZ coming!!!

I thought the original game kind of lame when it came to atmosphere. I've still got it installed and while a couple of the voice-overs are kind of funny, the whole this is just a bit dorky. The only place that says anything about degenerate elf sodomites is in the explanation text of their building.

Well, that explanation also had a real effect on the game because they constantly were after debauchery and spent most of their time drinking mojitos in various taverns and singing whatever elven version of j-pop they sing all the time. They drowned your base with whorehouses and wine tasting lounges that stole your adventurers precious time ffs. They also didn't have any of the elongated, "elegant" shining silver armor with runes covering them like the Russkies drew em', they were just faggoty looking sharp-eared dudes with a fabulous, OUTRAGEOUS blue hair (remember gob?) and were dressed in likewise fancy blue clothing.

Now go look at what they did on the official Majesty 2 site to see what they've come up with the new Elf design. I'm not even sure if they would even maintain that particular gameplay aspect with that design. I think they're reduced to being oh-so savage and beautiful noble High Elven arcane magician super archers furfaggotry.

That was just an example and as I said it's not just about the art, it's more about the design. The humorous atmosphere of Majesty was just fine imho.

Yes, thats a huge problem in russian game industry, all developers capable of doing a good game for some reason have absolutely talantless people working on design.

Well, not the ones making Disciples III apparently. I loved the way they did the Legions of the Damned "Mage Tree" with the tier-1 human cultists demonic transformation starting with this gigantic red, bloody eye bulging out of his belly along with the other minor sickly mutations to the pinnacle of the transformation, the "Modeus" which is like this demonic Plague Doctor looking abomination with a skeletal beak still maintaining the cyclopean eye in its belly it uses as its only sensory organ this time because the "head" hidden in the hood of its black robe has no eyes, only this plague doctor's skeletal beak protruding from it. It is much more awesome compared to the well-drawn but generic red/winged demon creature that was the "Modeus" in Disciples II.

    .dat's art/design team is p. fucking awesome.
