I am not concerned if the market consisted of Sony and that is because of the chip set being used by all the consoles (not Nintendo) and of course Nintendo. Plus I would consider the PC market quite healthy (In 2010 there was 2.5 Steam users logging in consistently and as of today there is now 4.5 million.and at this point) if Sony pulls a MS than we might see another influx of console players picking up PC's since a decent rig will cost $600 at this point.

I halfway expected Microsoft to backpedal on all that dystopian bullshit after seeing how people reacted to the Xbone announcement, but it looks like they're really going full retard on this. I'm starting to suspect that executives aren't really sentient at all. They're running a very complex algorithm that provides the illusion of sentience, but they're incapable of learning from the past, perceiving the present or predicting the future.

Forum threads are worst predictors of the future. Go look on Gamespot comments and the like. There's a lot of xbots.

We should not forget that Microsoft is trying to kill off the PC, too. At least they want it to make a closed system, pretty similar to their console.

Well, yes. This could be my answer for office work and some games. Good luck with the rest.

I guess Linux doesn't have all the answers to the M$ problem.

    Maybe Islam does.

Microsoft is not a problem. It just doesn't have an realistic competition.

A Windows failure would be a failure for everyone.

If need be, DirectX can be replaced.

OpenGL used to be way worse, a couple of years ago, after all...

Yeah, not sure where you're going with this... Besides Windows is not a dedicated gaming platform.

Why buy a console for $400-$500 when by the time they release you'll be able to build a PC with better specs/graphical capability for only $100 or so more? Re: Windows/Linux you can pretty much guarantee Valve is going to push some form of 'mainstream' Linux platform within the next five years or less. It's clear now that GabeN wants to directly compete with Microsoft.

Why buy a console, when games are extremely expensive and are rarely on sale?

    This can go on forever.

There are a couple of reasons, though. Some morons think that you can't play games on a couch otherwise (as if that's actually a bonus, but whatever), others are tech illiterate and then there are the exclusives.

He'd need to build his own OS and he's really not going to. He can support Linux, but it will never be more than support. If he builds his own OS, one can only hope he starts with BSD as the base rather than Linux. Shuttleworth already made the mistake of going Linux.
