So, World of Tanks, I play it, here's some criticism.

Now is a very good time to be playing TDs, they got a major camo boost in 8.6

 

Also, the -30% experience on TD and -50% experience on arty is no more. At least that is what 8.6 patch notes say.

 

A friend of mine started playing WoT recently and he's nagging me to play with him. But I gave my old account to my cousin, so I have to make a new one and have a fresh start.
So my questions are: which tech tree should I explore? Are the new nation's tanks fun? I played German and Soviet heavies/meds and American TDs on my old account, so I don't want to play these. Also, I don't feel like try-harding anymore, so I'd prefer high-pen guns.

 

Russians are still OP as fuck. French tanks are really weird -- they start out with pea shooters and imprnetrable armor while being slow as fuck - then transition into absurdly powerful killing mashines that will blow up if you so much as look at them. Germans are still gettign nerfed by russian devs and you need to know how to make the most of your tank to survive. (Although the Pz 1C is pretty stronk). If you just want to derp around, get the T18 (tier 2 Kwan TD) with the 75mm howitzer. Most tier 2 and 3 tanks can't pen its front armor and you oneshot most enemies.

British tanks have decent armor but crappy guns. Chinese tree is still underwhelming.

 

Kraut-fags are still whining.

 

Transmissions are still highly flammable, and shooting the "hardest" point in a german tanks front armor will make the rear-mounted engine catch fire.

Working as intended according to the devs. Plus the aiming changes in the last patch buffed inaccurate russian guns.

Looks like kwan/russkie with a dash of frenchie to me. German tanks aren't used in clan wars because they're underpowered and people know this.

That's just one tier of ten.

 

It's pretty representative of the rest of them. It's also a pretty solid indication that if you want to play in a clan eventually, pick kwan or russian tanks.

After that E50/E75 transmission change to the front because of butthurt I'm not touching German tanks ever again. There's not a chance for them to ever get back to at least the power-level they had in beta, I'm not gonna bother playing with underpowered tanks. I guess I'm gonna with Kwan heavy line, especially that you can skip T1 Heavy and M6, and heavy Brits. The Conqueror looks fucking sweet.

 

I remember Stug and Hummel being popular.

 

Stug is pretty good for what it is -- but there are many tier 5 tanks it has no chance against if it does not have backup. The hummel WAS decent, but all artillery got horribly raped last patch. Longer reload time, bigger reticules, longer travel times for shells. Barely anyone plays arty at the moment because they're so terrible.

Also, to get to the hummel you must first grind through the grille. Have fun with a +/- 2.5 degree gun traverse and moving your hull with the subseqent aim reset every 3 seconds.

 

So I've been playing with British Vickers Medium tanks all morning and I can't say I'm enjoying them too much. Huge, slow and with armor made mostly out of good intentions. I hope Matilda will be better.

Ok, can someone explain this to me: if Matilda has almost same front/side armor values as KV-1 (75/70 vs 75/75) and roughly same slope, why isn't she bouncing off even half the shots KV-1 does? Is it because sovietska bolshaya techinka again?

So now I find out they have a server in my region I think I'll give World of Jews another crack. What are some fun tanks in the low tiers (say up to tier 4?) to play around with, I have no inclination for the gargantuan grinds or money that this game requires for high tier play.

 

Tier 2:
- T18. Get the 75mm Derp gun. Drive up to shit and blow it up. Front armor will bounce most tier 2 tanks shots and you can one-shot all tier 2's and most tier 3's up close.
- VAE Type B (40mm Pom-Pom)
-T-26. Fairly nimble, stronk gun.

Tier 3:
Marder II - Good sniping TD, long reload times
Pz1c - Mauser mayhem. Requires balls of steel. Will probably get nerfed soon because WGN doesn't like germans having fun and seasoned tankers tend to use the Pz1C as a troll tank against newbies.
M2 Medium - fast, stronk derp gun, decent armor
M3 Stuart - good armor and really maneuverable

Tier 4:
SU-85B - Strong camo, gun requires no aiming 'cause it'll penetrate anything.
Matilda - Undead Phoenix seems to love her
T-50 - the bane of artillery every

Tier 5:
KV-1 - BE the bullshit OP. Will bounce most tier 1-5 shots and many tier 6 shots with the frontal armor. Even if it doesn't bounce, it'll take them 10-15 hits to kill you. Its gun will one-shot most enemies you encounter.
Wolverine - Armor made of paper, but you get to riddle people with death from a ridiculously fast-loading main gun. Also first tank destroyer with turret.
StuG III - Good camo, highly accurate gun, can pen most things if you know where to aim. (If you don't, expect to bounce EVERY shot against Tier V heavies). Needs to be fully upgraded to truly shine.
AT2 - Slow as fuck but virtually unkillable unless you get flanked. (200mm armor on a tier 5 TD)

 

Ulminati they removed the 107mm from the KV-1

 

Trust me, you're still going to be oneshotting or two-shotting most tier 3's, 4's and several tier 5's.

The 85mm pen will go through most non-sovietanium front armor. Light tanks and TDs can be oneshotted, mediums will usually take 2-3 shots. the 57mm has a sustained DPM of 2217. If you're confident in your ability to bounce every shot fired at you, it can shred targets pretty handily at range.

Plus it leads to the KV1S, aka KV - 1-shotted.

 

If you want one-shots, play KV-2.

 

Yes, I used to derp around with the 155mm for shits and giggles, but I won't be playing on my old account which is on the US server.

 

Get the T18 if you just want to derp. It's what the KV1 used to be. Except faster.

 

But remember that in low tiers there is virually no team play (Like there is any in the game right?), your teammates will leave you alone very often, will go for stupid kills nearly all the time and the tendency to do the lemming traing is really strong in the low tiers. Also, outside of very few tanks (Like T18) you wont bounce shit no matter how bad is the guy shooting at you.

In my experience, low tier games are very, very often won by 1-3 good to great players (In some of the tanks commonly regarded as seal-clubbing tanks) that carry the team and end the battle with 4+ kills. The rest is just fodder.

 

E100 is very popular right now.

 

Tier 9 battle. We (me in a JagdPanther II, some other guy in a M103) were advancing on enemy base. In their base, there's an AFK IS3. The M103 (tier 9 heavy, 100% hp) decides to ram the tier 8 tank. Rolls down the hill, collides head on and explodes. the IS3 takes 100hp damage. Sovietanium!

 

So, is this the MMO in which everyone plays as a tank?
