This may be something made much more to my tastes and preferences.
I just read through most basic stuff before, but i didnt want to follow it too much not to jinx it.

----------

A space engineer is a professional practitioner who uses scientific knowledge, mathematics, physics, astronomy, propulsion technology, materials science, structural analysis, manufacturing and ingenuity to solve practical problems in space.

Space engineers design materials, structures and systems while considering the limitations imposed by practicality, regulation, safety, ethicality and cost. Space engineers are grounded in applied sciences and their work in research and development is distinct from the basic research focus of space scientists.

Practical solutions:

  • engineering, construction and maintenance of space works: open-space stations, asteroid stations, space crafts of all sizes and utilization (civil and military), remote sensing technology, artificial gravity generators
  • asteroid mining (mostly near a construction site)
  • maintaining lines of transport and communications
  • industrial and scientific research, development and exploration

In war times, space engineering involves military engineering as well. Such tasks typically include construction and demolition tasks under combat conditions.

Military engineers use practices and techniques of camouflage, reconnaissance, communication methods and enhancement of survival by other troops. They are also responsible for construction rigging, the use of explosives and carrying out demolitions, camouflage erection, battleship construction and design, field fortification construction, artillery outpost construction, obstacle clearance, obstacle construction, assault of fortifications, the use of assault ships in obstacle crossings, expedient space station construction, general construction, route reconnaissance, and communication installations. They are also responsible for logistics behind military tactics.

Space engineers are in a high demand, especially since the Second Space Race of 2029. They take pride in their ability to get the job done right—no matter how big, how complex or how remote.

The word "engineer" derives from the Latin root ingeniare ("to contrive, devise") and ingenium ("cleverness").

- Apparently this seems to imply there will be some kind of gameplay, even combat - not just building stuff.
- It may or may not be a MMO, they say no, jury is still out. (bleh)
- But atleast its technical-mechanical capabilities are interesting if nothing else.
- Plus its nice to have one for gentlemen who understand and appreciate the beauty of technical - engineering aptitude.
- :fingers crossed:

There is also early access available now.

Basic tutorial:

An interesting way of cloning minecraft and without using those ugly faux-retro aesthetics at that. Those collision destruction physics look pretty nice, not sure about flight physics. I think I'll follow the development of this and see where it goes.

From the developers who did Miner Wars... it's shit.

My primary interest in this comes from using the engineers (technicians) as main characters, which i can relate to very much, myself being a technician of a sort, though of course not space technologies affiliated.

As any true technician-tm i have some feelings about various "pilots".
To illustrate, here is a list of some engineers - pilots exchanges that explains everything you need to know about how things really stand.

(P = the problem logged by the pilot.)
(S = the solution and action taken by the engineers or ground crew.)

P: Left inside main tyre almost needs replacement.
S: Almost replaced left inside main tyre.

P: Test flight OK, except auto-land very rough.
S: Auto-land not installed on this aircraft.

P: The autopilot doesn't.
S: IT DOES NOW.

P: Autopilot tends to drop a wing when fuel imbalance reaches 500 pounds.
S: Flight manual limits maximum fuel imbalance to 300 pounds.

P: Autopilot in altitude-hold mode produces a 200 feet per minute descent.
S: Cannot reproduce problem on ground.

P: Something loose in cockpit.
S: Something tightened in cockpit.

P: Pilot's clock inoperative.
S: Wound clock.

P: Dead bugs on windshield.
S: Live bugs on back-order.

P: 3 roaches in cabin.
S: 1 roach killed, 1 wounded, 1 got away.

P: Mouse in cockpit.
S: Cat installed.

P: Evidence of leak on right main landing gear.
S: Evidence removed.

P: Number 3 engine missing.
S: Engine found on right wing after brief search.

P: Unfamiliar noise coming from #2 engine.
S: Engine run for four hours. Noise now familiar.

P: Noise coming from #2 engine. Sounds like man with little hammer.
S: Took little hammer away from man in #2 engine.

P: Whining noise coming from #2 engine compartment.
S: Returned little hammer to man in #2 engine.

P: Whining sound heard on #2 engine shutdown.
S: Pilot removed from aircraft.

P: No. 2 propeller seeping prop fluid.
S: No. 2 propeller seepage normal. Nos. 1, 3 and 4 propellers lack normal seepage.

P: Noise coming from under instrument panel. Sounds like a midget pounding on something with a hammer.
S: Took hammer away from midget.

P: DME volume unbelievably loud.
S: DME volume set to more believable level.

P: Friction locks cause throttle levers to stick.
S: That's what they're there for.

P: IFF inoperative.
S: IFF always inoperative in OFF mode.

P: Suspected crack in windshield.
S: Suspect you're right.

P: Funny sounds from behind instrument panel.
S: Installed non-funny sounds.

P: Aircraft handles funny.
S: Aircraft warned to "straighten up, fly right, and be serious".

P: #2 ADF needle runs wild.
S: Caught and tamed #2 ADF needle.

P: Turn-and-slip indicator ball stuck in centre during turns.
S: Congratulations. You have just made your first co-ordinated turn.

P: Target radar hums.
S: Reprogrammed target radar with lyrics.

P: Seat cushion in 13F smells rotten.
S: Fresh seat cushion on order.

P: Flight attendant cold at altitude.
S: Ground checks OK.

P: Weather radar went ape!
S: Opened radar, let out ape, cleaned up mess.

And this one from a pilot instructor who ejected from a military trainer aircraft:
P: Reason for emergency eject: Landing gear would not retract
S: Aircraft had fixed landing gear. Aircraft written off.

Aerospace engineer Adam Leech submitted the following joke "gripes" after a couple of occasions in which RAF Harriers had ditched into the sea or the River Yeo.

P: Indication of moisture in intake.
S: That's because you ditched in the sea again.

P: Electrical shorting in controls due to moisture ingress.
S: That's because you ditched in the sea again.

P: Tendency for canopy to mist up.
S: That's because you ditched in the sea again.

P: Numerous water leaks from fuselage.
S: That's because you ditched in the sea again.

So basicly it is Kerbal Space Program in a space station? Sound cool.

It's still very basic in terms of things you can build, and stuff is way too fragile. There are many building blocks missing that would be needed to make even the simplest of machines on a space station (like an elevator or a rail shuttle for example - they're technically possible, but they break all the time and they're incredibly fiddly to operate).

I hope it'll get some kind of programmable circuits at some point so things can be automated (at least on a "push button to execute a specific set of movements" level).

I played it for an hour or so. Not a bad idea, poor implementation thus far (imho). There's not much of a game in there at the moment, but it is to be expected at this stage.
My biggest gripe is the controls - I realize that they are all needed to rotate the blocks &c, but the way it all comes together is truly horrendous.
Which is pretty puzzling, to be honest, as building stuff seems to be the selling point of this game... whereas at the moment building stuff is a chore, and the results are pretty underwhelming.
Big ships turn out nice (but are tedious to build), but small ships almost inevitably turn out fugly (and you cant use 1/3 of the blocks with them for some reason).

To put that into perspective - my first attempt at a space fighter left me with a small headache as I struggled to coordinate the keys to control my little dude (WSAD + QEFC) and the keys to rotate the block itself (Home+Del+Ins+End+PgUp+PgDn).
The interface is confusing, as you often can't see the block very clearly and you have to stuggle to position the little spaceman to place blocks where I want them.
The last straw was when I accidentally bumped the whole thing I built and it majestically flew into space, never to be seen again (guess them on-station gravity generators are just for show...).

I guess some gameplay will probably be added with time, and with practice you can build majestic stuff with little effort, but the assburger is not so strong with this one. And I'm feeling too old for crap controls at the moment.

Yeah, my complaing was more along the lines - how many freaking buttons does the game need. Add two buttons for symmetry axes and you now have more keybinds than street fighter.

There were a few updates in the meantime. Overall, not yet there, but an incline nonetheless.

Major stuff that was introduced:
The ability to copy and paste ships - saves you a fuckton of time if you want to smash things together
Definable symmetry axes - a godsend, saves 50% of your time when building stuff.
Drill now works (handheld and ship mounted) - adds an option to make holes in asteroids and ships (breaking asteroids creates debris which you can collect, no purpose for it atm.
Visual aid for block rotation - finally, no more guessing, delete rotates in which direction.

Still no gameplay apart from building stuff, crashing stuff and making swiss cheese asteroids, but it seems that they're slowly getting there.

Edit: And another update dropped in just now - added motors to spin connected sections. Baby steps, I guess.

Found this while poking through Steam. Would buy, but added to wishlist until some more features come out. Until then, Minecraft will do just fine.

In other news survival mode is out today. This might get interesting. Hopefully there's something to shoot at now.

I'll have to actually give it a spin, but from what I saw on the vids, there's nothing to shoot at at the moment apart from other players in multi.

I'm still torn whethere I have enough assburgers to try survival mode... building anything more complex than a gunboat looks tedious as fuck.

Damn shame I have to work today.
Care to post some impressions? I imagine it's not too developed, but is it possible to do some simple fighting? Maybe larp a pirate?

Nothing as complicated as larping a pirate. Really, it's hard to larp anything in single player, when you're the only human in the entire place. Basically, a random ship(mining, freighter, military escort) will fly through your world, and it's unmanned, so it'll just fly in a straight line. It's AI driven, but honestly, it can do jack considering that the ships are all large, which means they can't even fight back yet as large ship weapons are not implemented. So there's really nothing stopping you from hijacking a ship and breaking it down for components or whatever, for now.

I'd honestly recommend waiting quite a bit before buying this, the basic flying around and making stuff is fine, but so far content is far too sparse to do anything else.
Also, don't jetpack at full speed into anything.

Would buy, but while all the other physics looks ok, flight physics looks arcade-y, which kind of kills the point IMO.

A shame, because with proper flight physics and military craft already mentioned it would essentially amount to KSP with guns.

Strap Yourselves In Serpent in the Staglands Shadorwun: Hong Kong Pillars of Eternity 2: Deadfire Steve gets a Kidney but I don't even get a tag. Pathfinder: Wrath I'm very into cock and ball torture I helped put crap in Monomyth

There's been a new update yesterday. They added glass windows, 'artificial mass' which serve as weights and new types of cockpits. Also removed the FPS limit.

The ships in the trailer seem to be thrusting without accelerating past some point.

I may be wrong as the trailer is choppy and may not make the actual mechanics apparent.
