You know guys, it's really very cute. You see the dumbfuck tag and gang up, arguing against WHATEVER the dumbfuck tag says no matter what. Especially without considering if the point is valid or not!

Here, have fun with this one: The sky is blue.

That should be a much more interesting discussion than whether or not a plkayer should start with a bottle of vodka or not.

Hey I know! Maybe in STALKER 2 they can avoid giving you any weapons at the start, then send you into a combat mission right away!

    No, it's just dark blue.

    <b>Jasede</b>

Nope, sky is always blue. The horizon can get red, but the sky is blue.

Then how come at night it's so easy to run over black cats?

No, the skies in Oblivion are red, and Oblivion is ultra-realism.

You're wrong. The sky has no color.
The blue color that you see is just the result of sun light refraction.
Blue light has shorter waves than red, that's the reason for your 'blue' sky -
it's just the blue spectrum of sunlight.

Because there's not much contrast between dark blue and blank. Would you design a web page with black text on dark blue backgrounds?

    I hope not...

No, because black text on black background would do so much more for that elusive feeling of discovery, eh Sarvis?

So, did the Bandits find a Zerg somewhere and set up a forced breeding program or something? It's not so much just respawning enemies, it's that they _constantly_ respawn, and attack again right on the heels of the last fight.

So ere's my trip through the Garbage:

"Hrm... three guys surrounding another guy. Oh shit they're bandits!"
    *reaches Garbage*
"Oh, you guys want me to help ambush some bandits? OK!"
    *kills bandits*
"Let's loot some corpses. Loot, loot loot... huh? Why are bullets flying past my head? Oh shit, more bandits!"
"Ok, that's over now let's head towards agroprom."
"Gee, what a surprise they are under bandit attack at that train depot."
    *kills bandits*
"Ok, let's head out... shit, MORE bandits! Ok, I can't get through so let's explore."
"Damn Duty soldiers not lettin a guy through... wait, train depot under attack again? "
    *kills MORE bandits"
"Ok, should be safe to head towards agroprom now... no wait, there's STILL bandits outside, thought they were the ones attacking. "
*Discovers overlook in depot, kills bandits with ease."
"Ah, more corpse loo... is that more bandits over thtere? Fuckin' A!"

So yeah, I feel like I've killed half the population of Russia now... but they still keep coming. :(

Congrats, you've just reached the Garbage! Welcome to the 'WTF?!' club, heh.
I suggest looking for a Realism mod (0.9+ version)- the overabundant respawn issues were fixed there.

The bandits behind the railshed are part of a bandit camp. The bandits that attack the railshed are an 'attack force' not attached to the bandit camp.

I agree that the spawning rate can be a little annoying, though I think people have had a beat up on this issue. Its not THAT bad.

The whole respawn bit seems to be a bit hit and miss. Most of the time it stays in check, but occasionally it will go completely haywire.

Yesterday I was gonna go back to Cordon to finish some missions so I was fighting my way through the garbage. If you enter the Garbage from Cordon, there's a small bandit camp to the right of you a bit ahead. I was coming from the bar, and I saw that there were bandits at the camp so I figured I'd clear them out.
Cleared them out, was looting the bodies... 1 bandit spawn right beside me. Shoot him in the face, continue looting. 2 new bandits spawn and I saw screw this and just run away.

So I've almost reached Cordon, but there are a few bandits running around near the 'level change'. Take them out, loot bodies, and again bandits continue spawning. Finally they seem to stop, but now a small army of bandit immigrants come in from the Cordon area (despite that the checkpoint in Cordon is controlled by STALKERs).
These fuckers stay near the gate behind the point where you change levels, so you can't even get there to loot the bodies because the game prompts you to 'continue on to the next level'.

Most of the time it doesn't annoy me to much, but yeah, sometimes (like the example above) it can feel so frustrating to play the game. Supposedly the respawns will be fixed if they ever release the second patch.

Every time I leave something in control of Stalkers, I come back to find the Stalkers dead and bandits shooting at me.

I cleared this camp a number of times....I regret to say that after fighting the bandit hordes back many times (From both this camp and the ambush camp with the wrecked Helo, buses, etc) a mass of pseudo dogs have taken over both camps. When bandits spawn in these locations, they quickly become dogfood.

    Sweet, Sweet justice. Dogfood style!

Too bad you have to deal with the dogs then though... heh.

Why do people complain? I have had little to no trouble avoiding most bandits, or just running past them, making use of cover. Try not to play Stalker like an ego-shooter when moving from A to B, saves ammunition, time and patience.

Damn, I hope Stalker is only half as fun as this thread. If it's any better I might starve in front of my PC.

The respawn rates are trivially easy to mod yourself even if you don't want to install other mods. I changed things around to make them more "realistic", and that removed the single biggest irritation in the game for me.

I hear that the next patch will fix this respawning bug anyway, tho. It apparently occurs mostly in the Garbage and in one other spot, I can't remember where.

Well, I finally got Stalker. Damn customs.

As has become usual, I've spent the last two hours reading about and downloading mods. I miss the times when I'd just install a game and play.
I'm uncertain if I should try the game without mods first or install some "fixes" right away.

Anyway, I wonder if anyone else encountered this strange bug: My desktop icon for Stalker uses a Windows placeholder, as stalker.ico apparently doesn't contain any icons. So I use the setup icon now.

PS: Will modders never leard to name their readmes properly? It's so simple. You're releasing a UT map called DM-Loser? Then DM-Loser.txt is a perfectly good name for your readme file. Readme.txt on the other hand is certain to cause some kind of conflict, you genius. The same goes for all mods.

PPS: Can someone explain to me the reason for this:

A few mods mention it, most don't. I wonder if it's necessary for mods to work at all? I'll test that theory in a minute, but if that isn't it, I'm curious what it's for.

I don't think it really requires mods at the first playthrough.

I am only playing with the better stealth mod. Though it can make things a little too easy at night.

Oh, and the game ran ultra smooth for me until Pripyat, its turned into an occasional slideshow now. Think I might wait for the patch and restart.
