Yes, so to do advanced level missions you'll probably need advanced level ships. Kekekek.

Always a great idea to start selling things before you have built and balanced the economy.
That's assuming the game would ever come out. It will not. They will probably work on eyebrow physics until 2025.

The annual free fly event is going live tomorrow, Friday 11/23 - https://support.robertsspaceindustries.com/hc/en-us/articles/360012238394

You'll be able to download and play the game for free through November 30th. All flyable ships will be available for a 24 hour window - full schedule here: https://robertsspaceindustries.com/comm-link//16849-Anniversary-Promotion-Free-Fly-Details

The current 3.3.6 build includes the first planet Hurston, the first city Lorville, and four new moons. Hurston is legitimately the most impressive procgen planet I've seen in a game and it's worth the install just to cruise over the different biomes on Hurston. However, disappointingly the Lorville-based mission giver NPC is not working yet and there are no procgen missions anywhere in the Hurston system, so the only reason to check it out is the new scenery or to go shopping for a few new exclusive items.

Hurston does look impressive. I hope a real studio gets a licensing agreement for the engine and makes a real game. They would have to optimize it, though.

But despite having a very impressive engine, the developers simply have no incentive to release it, ever. Not as long as people keep buying those fucking ships. You have to be an idiot to kill this golden goose by releasing it.

Fuck crowdfunding. And fuck morons.

There is something I would never be able to understand about the concept of the game. It just doesn't seem fun at all. Imagine going home from a long day of work, spending 40 minutes flying from planet A to planet B, docking for another 20 minutes, going to the train station and waiting for the train for 5 minutes, walking 20 minutes to talk to an NPC, then walking back, waiting for the train again, getting on the ship and flying to the mission destination for another 30 minutes, shooting 5 guys and then flying back 30 minutes again, docking, waiting for the train and talking to an NPC. That is like 3 hours of inanity, just to be Star Citizen!

This is not how games work. And no one would actually have fun.

They could have made a great space MMO with big space and land battles, with the intrigue of EVE politics, but an actually fun gameplay, land bases, big guilds, but instead...we get this.

The reality is that the unoptimised game engine would never support large battles, intriguing PvP, nothing. People are imagining it would, but the reality is that the game, even if released, will be just a walking simulator, basically a more beautiful No Man's Sky. Once the novelty wears off, no one would have a reason to play it. I can't imagine the devs don't understand this.

You have to remember that people like this actually exist:

Playing RDR2 has really boosted my excitement for SC. Aside from being a genuinely great game all-around, I think it works as an excellent proof of concept for a lot of what CIG is trying to do. I legitimately clip-clop through town at a jogger's pace saying "howdy" to everyone and just taking in the scenery. I purposefully avoid fast travel. I spend days on end hunting because I enjoy it, but also because I don't want the story to end. I can't wait to see how I procrastinate in the 'verse!

The answer is right in front of you. Chris Roberts is megalomaniac wannabe George Lucas. He wanted to make hollywood movies and failed. Now he will make a walking simulator with the most luxurious graphics known to mankind, hire expensive actors and pretend that this is a game. Graphic whores everywhere that have a thing for space games will support him until bankruptcy.

Technically we don't lose anything, so let them be. Idiots will be scammed, we'll have our entertainment, and there's (slim) chance that something worthwhile will come out of it.

You are right. But crowdfunded games have given me hope only to disappoint. Sometimes, I feel like SC/SQ42 might be released one day and not be completely shitty. Of course, I know this won't happen. Collateral damage from the hype.

Considering how shitty the SQ42 trailer was, I can see why he failed in Hollywood. No sense of filmography, I can't believe they released something like this. And they seemed proud lol.

Negative Outlook
No opinion of CEO
I worked at Cloud Imperium Games full-time (More than a year)

Pros

Good cantina, lots of fancy furniture and amenities. We spent a lot of time in the office so it was nice to have these things. Fans often send food. Fantastic opportunities for advancement.

:lol::lol::lol:

Cons

For software devs
1. Low pay imo
2. The crunch is real, constant, and often ends up being purposeless.
3. Management does not actually know what product is being made. I don't mean that in a "they are dumb" sense. Most middle management I worked with are actually effective and fair to employees. I mean that they literally do not know what they are supposed to be having us produce. It makes it hard to work on "your piece" so to speak.
5. Theres a serious braindrain effect here.

For Fans
1. Much of what the upper management has said in a 10 for the chair man, presentations etc is not really realistic for the game in my opinion
2. Be nicer to your fellow fans. Their like/dislike of the game by any one fan/detractor will not affect the game's outcome.
3. The team wants to give you a great game, they (as I am gone) need your support more than ever before.
4. Marketing is often created by a separate company. Be aware of this and adjust your expectations accordingly. The new medical ship is a perfect example. The team are handed a ship concept and must create a game around it.Show Less

Advice to Management

Set expectations with your fans. Use one of the weekly shows to speak about the product we are making.

Oh, that is way more common than you'd think. Lack of common vision, poor communication etc. Look at how many "studios" and how many people they employ.
