Almost a forgone conclusion with the Redeemer. That team got work done fast and the rest could barely catch up in the end.
But the one I actually want to buy didnt even get third place :decline:. Chris better get them sorted into the game anyway.

Yes, it's a shame that they didn't get the third place. Their ship is vastly superior to that clunky something from 3Dingo.

I tried to try the Arena Commander, too poor to buy joystick, have to use mouse to fly.....

    :negative:

My god is hard to steer that thing, I'd love to use just the KB to fly the ship and the mouse to control the gimballed turrets.

I've put my Idris Frigate and Vanduul Scythe up for sale on the grey market for $3,000 and $1,500, respectively, and have received 4-5 offers for each within six hours. They think those are super-cheap prices, like it's a Black Friday sale or something. Some middlemen who've handled large trades in the past are sniffing around. I'll be vetting both the middleman and the buyer very carefully. I'm actually hoping someone will decide they're willing to risk PayPal gifting, which is irreversible and easy, with no risk for me (if they pay me I'll give them the ship, but they don't know that).

Roberts threw a hissy fit yesterday and said, in essence, that anyone who complained about the flight model "just sucked" (paraphrasing), and that he'd only be tweaking it a little bit. That says nothing about the controls themselves, mind you, but his attitude was enough to tip the balance for me. The gimbaled targeting cursor shit remains unaddressed except for some developers defending its inclusion for various reasons.

In short, I've finally decided it's time to hedge my bets. If I can find a buyer I can deal with, the SS Blaine will be headed up the primordial estuary and into some other guy's hangar.

How can the Vanduul ship go for so much money? It's the in-game equivalent of a trash mob.

I think that's awesome for you. You backed early, showed some enthusiasm for it, and got made fun of for it in this thread, and now you're going to make a few grand off of it.

I sincerely doubt that the Vanduul Scythes used for target practice in AC are as strong as even a default Scythe in the hands of a player, let alone one that's been upgraded from its stock equipment. I further doubt the quality of their AI. Having said that, Vanduul Scythes (are supposed to) have powerful fixed forward cannons, and don't get a magic auto-aim Quake cursor, so that may be part of it. The perceived value of a captured Vanduul fighter goes beyond its combat capability, though. They are the only insured Vanduul vessels that will ever exist, and there are only 300 of them in existence.

Regardless, all the more reason for me to sell it.

You're throwing the towel into the ring for a *control scheme*? After all the back n' forth we've had about stuff to actually be concerned over? ;)

Let me know when I get to say "I told you so."

    (Inb4 game is insanely awesome)

Well, it's clear we have different priorities. Everyone else is more concerned with the grandiose list of features and whether they'll be delivered, how much grind there'll be, how influential the cash shop might be, etc.

On of my main requirements is that the game not be arcade-y or Quake-y, that it should have a high skill ceiling, and that it should reward long hours of practice. Dogfights or battles between players should reward great skill. A hundred hours on, there should still be plenty more to learn. ED has done it right; someone much more experienced will maneuver circles around you and rip you apart quickly, even if you're flying a much better ship.

This mouse-gimbaling shit ain't that, not really.

In all these driving sims you can beat the assisted driver 100% of the time if you are good enough. Isn't that the whole point?

Yes, that's exactly the point... although there's more to a space sim than simply racing across the finish line.

I find myself in the same boat as you, although I only spent 40 dollars on star citizen for a basic package a while back. But yeah, Elite Dangerous is definitely shaping up to be the game I was waiting for, and a huge part of that is the control.

It's a sad day... the SS Blaine has just been sold. I miss it already, even though it doesn't exist yet, and would be a computer simulation even if it did.

I wouldn't have sold it if I still felt I could trust Roberts to deliver a proper space sim. It hurt to let the ship go, and I don't need the money. The Idris Frigate will still be available for purchase in-game, though, and I still have a very respectable pile of ships.

It's a nasty feeling, but the fact of the matter is that the Star Citizen project has progressed from 90,000 backers and $6 million raised to 480,000 backers and $46 million raised. The audience of this game can no longer be properly described as "hardcore computer space sim players"—that was barely the case back in November 2012 (I'd put it at 50:50, a wildly optimistic best-case scenario), and it certainly isn't the case now. While Arena Commander is a very early alpha version (I actually expected it to be a lot rougher around the edges than it is), it was the developers' reactions to complaints about gimbaling and the controls, rather than the state they're currently in that caused me to lose some faith. It's bad enough that a bulk of the fan base is so apologetic of arcadey Freelancer controls, but the developers shouldn't be.

CIG are gradually expanding the multiplayer. Even 4chan's /vg/ seems rather subdued at how popamole it's reported to be, which is exactly what I and others told those stupid fucks to expect. Reddit is less subdued, since you don't get le upvotes xDDDDD unless you're a gibbering, pole-smoking fanboy when posting to gaming-related subreddits. Alpha is alpha, but this gimbaling auto-aim horseshit needs to fuck the fuck off. I've known for a year and a half that there would be gimbaled weapons, but not how they'd be implemented.

Grunker et al can't even enjoy telling me "Told you so!," because no one really expected this particular brand of nonsense until it happened, and with their current budget the ambitious feature list is actually seeming more and more possible. In fact, landing on asteroids and ship hulls with mag boots is already in, though very buggy.

The core gameplay is ultimately much more important than trillion-poly hyper-realistic ship models and a rigmarole of impressive-sounding features. I don't give a flying fuck at a rolling doughnut about the rest of it if adrenaline-fueled, skill-based dogfighting with a very high skill ceiling isn't part of the game. That being said:

I don't like the design for the ships in this game. Too obviously derived from modern day military aircraft in a bad, haphazard way.

Nah. I've spent $4,470 total on Star Citizen, but I've sold:

    • 1 Idris Corvette in early 2013 for $2,000 (100% profit)
    • 1 idris Frigate yesterday for $3,000 (200% profit)
    • 1 Vanduul Fighter soon for $1,500 (400% profit)

Which means I haven't spent a dime and have actually made $2,030 net profit, while still having $2,170 worth of pledge packages (incl. signed collector's edition/various tchotchkes), add-on ships, subscription fees, skins, et cetera. I still have:

    • Banu Merchantman (6,000-unit freighter)
    • Caterpillar (pirate boarding platform/3,200-unit freighter)
    • Starfarer (tanker/900 units of fuel)
    • Constellation (Millennium Falcon analogue/480-unit freighter)
    • Retaliator (heavy bomber)
    • Gladiator (light bomber)
    • Stealth Hornet (stealth fighter)
    • Super Hornet (2-seat heavy fighter)
    • Xi'an Khartu Scout (2-seat long-range exploration/combat)
    • M50 (interceptor/racing)

It's hard to be butthurt about being paid thousands of dollars to have more rewards and pledge ships than the vast majority of backers. Either way, I win. If SC really goes down the arcade tubes, I can sell the rest of these rewards for to arcade 'tards for... probably $3,000 for everything, including physical rewards. At that point my net profit would be approx. $5,000. Not quite lottery winnings, but enough for a nice used motorcycle, an absolutely fantastic computer and peripherals, a small pile of guns, or 4-5 pounds of marijuana, street.

Do you know how long it takes to smoke 5 pounds of grass, IDtenT? Months and months, even sharing with friends.

I like how you edited in that last bit.

I can't say I disagree with you completely, though the Banu Merchantman would like a word.
