I don't know, scaled up graphics and eye candy are too next-gen?

    Yeah, you're probably right.

UQM pre-HD was pretty good already. Dunno about the HD rmake, but if it gets the graphixwhoars on board, then I'm all for it. Everyone deserves to experience SC2

I need to check if this incorporates some of the addititions from Project 6014, like orbiting ships on the solar system map rotating to account for their heading.

On another note, the final UQM Remix pack is finally out, only 8 years after the previous release. It has yet to be zipped up into a .uqm file, but otherwise it's good to go.

Can't say I see the need for this since UQM's look has aged really well. But it looks to be handled by someone competent and not Trent Oster, so why not?

Would have to see the animations in action to say if it's good or not. Looking at those screenies leaves me indifferent, some things look better while others have lost some charm. If I was to play it now I'd stick to the original graphics, just to guarantee that there'll be no funny stuff.

Codex 2014 Make the Codex Great Again! Grab the Codex by the pussy
I had a brief playthrough of this. It's made by the team that's working on Project 6014, which means it has lots of extra features rather than just upgraded graphics.

    Pros:

    # Planets spin and move about their orbits. The smaller the planet and the smaller the orbit, the faster the planetary body moves.
    # Ships visible in the solar system will be turning to show their direction of travel.
    # The attention to detail in the hi-res graphics is incredible. Pixellation is visible on planetary surfaces, but beyond that it's just awesome to look at.
    # The Hi-Res Ur-Quan is AWESOME! Hi-Res Commander Hayes is also pretty cool (he has a tricorder on his belt now) and the Hi-Res Melnorme is almost identical to his original counterpart, except his eye is much cooler. The Melnorme ship, however, looks like a silverish tick now.
    # I haven't seen any wonky animations... yet.

    Cons:

    # The fonts aren't good enough. The intro font is in ALL CAPS, which means that the impact of the "because YOU must captain this starship and return to Earth!" line is lost. The font used for messages sent from the planet's surface is atrociously bad, and it doesn't break lines properly, so some of the text simply isn't visible.
    # Some of the graphical overhauls don't look and/or feel right. The front end of the Precursor ship looks... fat compared to the original.

As this is an Alpha build, I recommend trying it out and helping the 6014 team out by picking out better fonts for them, for example.

Check my 2nd post in this thread, I had a short playthrough and posted my (brief) findings.

Taxalot: All the changes that have been made so far are cosmetic and OPTIONAL. In fact, I think the Project 6014 "sequel" to Star Control 2 will have both available - standard graphics or the HD stuff they've been working on, but I think you'll be stuck with orbiting planets and rotating ships.

The VGA graphics of The Ur-Quan Masters are perfectly adequate. In fact I find them preferable to this fan art-tier redundancy.

If only you realized how retarded you appear when writing stupid shit like this

    You too

You are such fucking hipsters. Durr it's awsum when 1 pixel in a game is rendered using 20 on my LCD and everything looks like a blurry mess where you can't see shit - now dat's so hardcore and I'm so hardcore yeaaa

Relax, Sky-kun. I hadn't yet examined the graphics to see if they hadn't mutilated the game's art style when I posted that.

Took it for a quick spin. Thoughts:

The ships are all just great and fit in perfectly. I particularly enjoy the Slylandro, it's mesmerizing.

Planets look better. They are little bit off from the initial art style of the game, but still good. It's probably just something I need to get used to. My main issue with them gameplay-wise is that on the surface map it can be hard to distinguish similarly-colored minerals at times. Try finding the yellows or reds on mercury, for example. Some planets look totally bizarre with some kind of graphical corruption, but it's an Alpha so whatever.

Character/Race portraits look very good so far, with one exception. The Melnorme look a bit too washed out with overly brightened colors IMO.

I think Skyway needs to be put to pasture, it's a little sad to watch the old dog gumming ineffectively at any passersby.

edit: what is up with those ugly-ass fake .pngs?

You don't know what that word actually means.

You can toggle fullscreen display scaling options in your GPU control panel (including 1:1 rendering in a black border), but generally I find that even when upscaled, pixelated old games look just fine. If not, you can plug in an old CRT, which I sometimes do myself.

"It's too blurry" is little more than an extremely lame justification for a shitty HD remake.

Why? You are a pretentious idiot here who thinks that saying that modern resolution support and higher resolution of graphics are shit makes you look all elite somehow.

So basically I should either sit in front of my screen with a magnifying glass or must go an buy some barely working CRT with eye tearing frequency in order to enjoy extremely dated 90s graphics (not that stuff here is much better and they certainly could've improved on it a lot by using at least more detailed art)?

Now why would a sane person do that instead of using a remake that doesn't require any of these?
