Even if Bio goes down, the IP is too valuable to collect dust.
EA will just necro another studio and tell them to get another Dragon Effect installment out, continuity be damned.

Yep, like what happened with Command and Conquer.

Whether they'd continue Dragon Age is dependent on the third game's sales. The second sold far worse than the first.

Even though EQ2 is an inferior game compared to EQ1 it's hardly a "How Not To Design & Manage MMORPGs 101" that is The Old Republic. Then again I guess it was kinda obvious in hindsight when you see who worked on the game - company with no MMO experience and remnants of whatever remained after EA butchered Mythic after Warhammer Online failed to perform. Match made in heaven.

Not necessarily a terrible thing. C&C3 was actually quite good, so was its expansion pack and Red Alert 3. Really well supported post-release too, a rare thing to see from EA. Sure they ran out of ideas and C&C4 was complete crap, but I had no problem that they weren't Westwood.

Seeing the same thing happen to BioWare properties wouldn't be a terrible thing. Get some devs who are possibly more talented/organized and who know the genre and are familiar with the source material, and they might well make something better than BioWare ever did.

Problem is...they're running out of 'talented studios' they can acquire.
    It's a gamble they'd rather not take.
The day Bioware isn't making a quasi-RPG shooter/action games is probably the day they can close down the studio, cause I don't believe they know how to do anything else.

Sure, but as far as mismanagement goes, it's much more impressive to drive a successful franchise into the ground than to botch something you just created.

I haven't seen anyone in-game mentioning it. I'm not even sure if it's live yet. Maybe in update 2.0?

    Sounds about right.

Fucking hell I swear they don't even try with those dialogue wheel summaries "You're beautiful" = 'There won't be any trouble, you bring out the best in me'. And that close up of the awfully animated kiss  .

Every time I see something about Bioware, it tries to make my day. They even made a random Zabrak your typical biowarean James Vega manwhore.

What's next, now that soap operas are praised for their writing?

Pretty good population on all worlds on my server lately. They just released a fairly large update last night. Update 2.0, a major one, which features the Rise of the Hutt Cartel expansion, comes out later this month.

    So it ain't dead yet.

The gree event was pretty fun. I recently hit 50 and finished the Sith warrior storyline which was fantastic, and although the game does at times have cheesy/bad dialogue scenes like the zabrak posted above, I have NEVER seen/heard a better voice acted scene then at the end of the warrior story. Time to hunt for HK-51!

Star Wars: The Old Republic APAC Servers Closing [09:02 am ET] - Share - 49 Comments
EA is planning on closing down the Asia/Pacific servers for Star Wars: The Old Republic, BioWare's Star Wars MMORPG. This forum post has word from community manager Eric Musco saying "everyone wants the opportunity to play on higher populated servers." He explains why they decided to merge the three APAC servers with the North American servers, rather than into a single APAC server, saying: "The move to North American servers better delivers on our ultimate goal of providing the best play experience, with the most possible players, long term."
