I have played it more than 30 hours already. This game is really good, in my opinion the best 4X game at the moment. Really addicting and never boring. It has some problems of course, but nothing too serious.

It is the only Civilization-type game i have ever played (and i have played almost all of them) that i can't put down and i believe that i will be playing this for months or even years.

I could never invest much time in Sid Meier's Civs because of many problems no one seems to notice or care. The main problem with Sid Meier's Civs is that they are war games in reality, and the combat aspect of them sucked for many years. Just stucks of units against each other. BORING! In Civ V they tried to fix this, but instead created more problems. In Legendary heroes, combat is fun. While not deeply detailed like X-Com for example, it is highly satisfying. It could be much improved in later versions though. There is still plenty of room for improvement.

Another problem with Sid's Civs, is the micromanagement. In LE, is gone. You can focus on important aspects like planning and combat. No need for worker units and their management. Roads are build automatically between cities and outposts. Resources, just click on them and build improvements! No need to use pre-determined formulas to calculate the best tile for city placement, only the center tile matters in terms of resource production! And while a civ-fanatic could call that "dumb down", it is not, it is actually the smart thing to do! What is the point of making these calculations? You only get to choose the tile you build, so why not have the game already calculate this for you?I love also the fact that cities themselves require no serious micromanagement.

A third problem with Sid's Civs, is that city building is not realistic. The only sensible way is to create highly specialised cities for each task, research,unit,wealth creation,culture. So you only build the buildings that help the city's specialization. After some games, it becomes routine to know which buildings to group for a specialty. And this is not realistic in any way, for a game called "Civilization". And mainly, it is another form of micromanagement. In the grand sceme of things, in both games you create specialized cities. But in Legendary Heroes there is no need to memorise what to build were. Leveling up a city you get to choose the specialty yourself, and have different building chains based on that. And you really do not skip buildings. Most buildings are usefull and sooner or later you get to build most if not all of them. It is ironic that the fantasy game is more realistic in city building.

So all in all, we have a Civilization-type game that removes unnessecary micromanagement and adds fun and exciting combat. Seems like a winner in my book!

I also loved that you can design you own units and even factions. This is great. I have already created my Spartan faction with its Hoplite-type units :p

Of course the game has flaws. First of all its engine sucks, period. It is highly unoptimised and i have experienced crashes late-game. I really look forward to patches...

Second, the game needs more polish in the Graphics/Sound department. It feels cheap. And while we are talking about 4x games, looks do matter. For example look how Civs IV/V took so many high scores from reviews, while far lesser games in gameplay. They had really good graphics/sound of course!

Third, it needs more options in combat, for example the option pick the troop placement for combat before it starts. And defence could be reworked, it is not realistic and not really useful Having high defence is almost useless. And in general, needs some balancing.

I have not played the ealrier elemental games. Mainly because of the reviews (user and critic alike). But i really liked this one. I highly recommend it to all 4x gamers!

PS: About Eador and being better. Are you serious? Eador is a broken game that could have been decent if it was actually finished. I tried the latest installment and after 3-4 hours i gave up. And even if finished, its gameplay design was not exaclty stellar. I hope you are joking... And no, i am not biased, if earlier Elemental games were broken like this i would criticize them in the same way. I have not played them to have an opinion though.

He is kinda right though, the game isnt as bad as I thought it will be. But it does get boring fast once you see that there is literally no build and unit variation and that events and quests are extremely repetitive. Each game you will have the same quests at the same time.

Very few quests too.

the worldbuilding with special areas is pretty good.

But I shall mention the biggest problem of the game IMO... XP farming.
while you can get troops and heroes at a bit higher levels the best way of winning is to farm XP on creatures. Because of that I often leave lairs in my realm untouched since they will spawn more easy XP. A problem on this side is the fact that you get so little XP from wars against other factions, even if those fights is way more difficult than a few elementals. They had one building (that you can only build one of) that gives you XP, but that very infrequent and not even as effective as killing off enemy pioneers! So when I make a new army I send it out to farm XP against the monsters that give the best XP, but won't kill any of the men.

I 'acquired' this but wont play it because of the stories i hear about the ai. apparently once you kill all the monsters and shit its a given win because the ai is so horrid that there is no point. Event the apologist stardock fanboys on the forum are saying this (although they tend to suck brads dick while doing so).

If he can get the ai to galciv level (prob not gonna happen) it may be worth a try

Event the apologist stardock fanboys on the forum are saying this (although they tend to suck brads dick while doing so).

If he can get the ai to galciv level (prob not gonna happen) it may be worth a try

Im playing a bit of this recently and the AI can be a decent challenge actually, way more than monsters. It cant handle its nation very well but is able to dish out enough competent armies at least.

What defends cities is mostly random sometimes you get militia sometimes you get heroes too.

Tactical AI isnt stellar as it prioritizes lowest hp targets at all cost, even attacking them when they are immune to certain dmg types. The point is it can send enough your way to make it at least somewhat challenging.

Lets just hope they dont release: Fallen Enchantress, Legendary Heroes, Improved AI Edition, instead of releasing a simple patch

Frogboy had a blog talking how busy he was developing the AI and all. I guess the lesson is don't waste time writing blog posts hyping an AI that will make you look like a fool.:lol:
