Not completely sold on some of the stuff (namely the combat and having "cameos" from Lovecraft's different books) but you're doing something clearly different here and that's pretty exciting. Looking forward to seeing more, will probably back the game at a low tier at least.

Really nice music on the website btw.

The very presence of combat mechanics could actually increase the suspense. Avoiding hopeless combat sounds a lot more natural than just dying due to bad choices. In the latter case, the moment you realize you messed up, your character is already outside your influence and you are just spectator.

I remember first playing Unreal. Atmosphere was great right off the bat, but the dread got a lot more "physical" after I found the dispersion pistol. If a game gives you means to fight, you don't have the slightest doubt that you are in danger. This is the kind of option that is exclusive to games, all other media can only tell and show.

Likewise, scripted loss of the ability to fight will do nothing. Games have the obligation to give fair chance, and we all know it.

Art style is decent, but they haven't kept a consistent perspective/proportion with all the art assets. Buildings and some characters look obscure due to this - but it's nowhere near as bad as SotS: The Pit.

You know, even if the world is pretty much done for if the Old Ones have already awakened, it wouldn't be that bad if your party is allowed to "win" against all of these eldritch abominations, even if it was to temporally seal them. Not all Lovecraftian stories have their characters losing their minds and lives. Randolph Carter was quite bad-ass and he accomplished everything he wanted to do and then some. But we'll see how this goes.

Best thing they can do is to extract their do-s and don't-s from that they can gleam from HPL's own stories and from stories that were written by his pen palls, and to build on that and only on that. Ignore everything that came after that, especially whatever variety of strict Mythos "rules" -imagined by later writers and fans- some folks might expect them to stick to.

We are devoted only to H.P.L. works and our own imagination, this you can be assured of.

Here comes our next selectable Archetype.
"Secret Society"

*Prologue: The character is a member of a hidden order. The backing of the order made the life easier so far, but the initiation rite to the inner circle may involve some complications...
*Occult, investigation and medicine skills will be able to reach the maximum level.
*A player character with Secret Society background is less likely to suffer from the negative effects and costs of spells and have unique dialog options with npc's from the same background.

Secret Society isn't a good archetype in English. Cultist, Socialite, Practitioner of the Dark Arts, Member's Only Jacket Wearer; these are good descriptions of a person in a secret society. Secret society would never be used as a descriptor of a person in English.

Based on the concept art, it looks like Cultist or Practitioner of the Dark Arts fits with the theme.

Are you going to have only male PCs in the game?

As recent games have shown you need at least one Trans, Gay, Lesbian, Bi and maybe some animal type as well.

Greetings V_K,
All the archetypes will be available to both genders. Furthermore, due to the lack of substantial numbers of female occupants in some of our archetypes such as Soldier in the 1920's, we hope to offer additional dialogue options for female player characters to strengthen their foundation in the timeline. Time will show :)

Don't forget different races for your characters, even if Lovecraft was racist as hell. Political correctness is worse than any eldritch abomination attempting to consume all life in our dimension (assuming it's not the same). :M

Now seriously, perhaps this will be of your interest: http://www.hplovecraft.com/

Yes, you should have a black and an asian character die right at the start of the game. Make sure black one dies first. :M

Our next archetype is the "Aristocrat".

ad5yVNY.jpg

*The character is the sole remnant of a noble family. The return to the family manor after the loss of the mother may not bring pleasant memories.

*Finance, speechcraft and occult skills will be able to reach the maximum level.

*A character with aristocracy background starts the game with a special henchman and have unique dialog options with npc's from the same background.

Greetings Prime Junta,

Your butler acts as a normal party member. You will be able to control him in combat. But it will be up to you and your decisions to preserve his loyalty.

Can you play as the henchman also? Jeeves is way more fun than Wooster.
