Hey, I can also pause while playing Hotline Miami to stop and think what to do next! Turn-based gameplay FTW!!

We wanted to make the game accessible to players of all sorts.

    And there is the answer.

While the Codex sceptically spergs about mechanics and rulesets, those with a broader perspective focus on what truly makes a quality DnD experience

Interesting... it was never confirmed as a pc exclusive, but only announced for pc and the Q&A only mentions a pc release. When it was brought up at the GDC XBone / Win 10 crossplay announcement, they quickly clarified they were only mentioned because of the "Windows 10 implementation" they were doing. When someone complained that the UI looked "consolised", the designer stated it was just a WIP and would change.

But now someone on the forums spotted this in the N-Space jobs listing

Yes, that's the same job posting we spotted at the beginning of this thread, from before we even knew what this project was. But then it was announced PC-exclusive, so we forgot it.

Ah, had forgotten about that. They've never actually claimed pc exclusivity, just only confirmed pc, been very vague when questioned about console UIs etc ("It's still WIP!")

Seems to be standard marketing practice these days. Attract pc gamers with "designed for pc" claims or hints, when that well of cash starts to dry up then move to consoles. Probably in a strategy guide somewhere.

Most people in this thread always expected a console design though, explains a lot - from the 4 person party limit to fully voiced core plot to fast pace of action etc.

When talking about SCL they always call it "old-school/tactical/top-down/isometric" rpg, but that job opening is listed as an upcoming action rpg, I mean it's normal to expect the worst but I think that's for a different game.

An action RPG can still be all of those things.

I guess it's possible they have another project, but it seems doubtful to me. This is a small dev who had to take on outside investment to get this project done, the idea that they have another "high-profile" multiple platform RPG under way seems a stretch to me. I felt they were going all in on SCL and expansions.

Anyway, we'll probably hear more soon as pc master race butthurt has commenced.

To be honest it's not nearly as bad as "designing" for consoles and then feeding the PC players a shitty port.

Some oldies say "action rpg" when they mean "combat-focused game with stats and such," that could be what they meant.

"Wizards are no longer glass cannons, obliged to fire off a couple of spells then run away"

    This is a good thing?

And no alignment... really? They have the DnD license and then for some reason strip away all the stuff...

TBH, sometimes it's tough to interpret more mainstream publications after spending a bit of time on the Codex. Like I couldn't help thinking the writer was trolling with the stuff about "baffling" rules in the Bioware games, glass cannons, the companies involved etc. Perhaps Bubbles has a day job there.

"Ray of Frost turns wizards into archers"

"The Sword Coast is that region of Forgotten Realms' Faerun that includes Baldur's Gate, Luskan, Icewind Dale, Neverwinter and Waterdeep. Like the Hinterlands in Dragon Age, it's meant to be a fertile area with a frontier feel, overrun by monsters."

"the focus will be on storytelling through recruitable characters. Tudge mentions Alistair, Morrigan, and Minsc as inspirations."

The technology to make wizards awesome didn't exist when computer games were invented, duh.

The strange thing is in the paragraph there is no explanation they won't be glass-like. It just says they'll have cantrips in addition to their normal spells. 1) That's something that's existed in d&d since 3E. 2) That has nothing to do with glassiness.

A mage isn't a glass cannon anymore, he's a glass cannon and a glass peashooter!

Yeah, now they can fire off a couple of spells, run away until their cooldowns are finished and run back to fire off more spells.

I dunno how close this system actually is to 5E D&D, but 5E wizards are basically glass cannons with coaxial glass machine guns in the form of fairly strong cantrips.

I love the alignments, but I'm still pretty hot for this in a guilty pleasure sort of way. Maybe Obsidian and Paizo will eventually utilize the OGL to give us a 'real' D&D RPG, or maybe they gradually update their way up to a full 5th edition adaption in future expansions.

Looks suspiciously like Divinity Original Sin. Seriously.
