Congratz on the whole getting funded thing.

Now let's see how many stretch goals you guys are gonna hit before people realize you are using the donations to actually bring back Mog-Pharau, the Hated One, and begin the Second Apocalypse.

If he wants inspiration Solium Infernum serves way better as such. Its also a better game in my opinion.

It is true that Solium Infernum fits the theme much better indeed, and its strategic elements may be more relevant, but I think that something like the battles of AI could work better here, as they are a bit more detailled without dragging too long.

Heard about Solium for the first on the Codex - been dying to play it but I'd need to convince my game crew to play it.

You should keep current implementation of death god for game journo review copies ;)

    Gratz on being funded.

Solium infernum is Great. It has absolutely awful documentation, but the core gameplay is very satisfying either way.

Also check out Dominions, on the 4 part by now. If you havent heard about it its pretty much THE autistic strategy game of people vying for godhood.

    Aw yiss! Congratulations.

I know it's probably awfully early to ask my next question, but maybe you devs have decided on it already. Do you guys have any plans for expansions or is the goal making this game as good as possible for its release and then focusing on other projects after patching TWS for a little while?

Oh yeah I love Dominions, played a ton of 3 and a good amount of 4. Excellent game but we would never try to compete against it for multiplayer-goodness with infinite depth of strategy.

We really have no long-term plans, we always looked at That Which Sleeps a a "polish to perfection" project - it will be designed to be self-contained with the functionality it possesses, meaning I wouldn't want to leave a gaping hole that could be filled with a future DLC. So new Old Ones, new Scenarios, new Abilties, new Agents etc would be almost guaranteed to be released, but as far as new functionality we would want to ask the question "Does this belong here or in a different game." Multiplayer is a great example of this, should the game eventually be modified to allow for multiplayer or should a lot of the features of this game be moved into a new game that focuses better on multiplayer gaming.

What if (dark one forbid) miss your religion and rival elder ones strech goal? Will you consider adding these mechanics through an expansion pack?

With religion it becomes more confusing, as all of the hooks still exist as it was once a feature of the game. We would seal those away and replace some pieces of functionality to make sure the game experience is complete without it, whereas Rival Elder Ones are represented right now only by a few random events and campaigns.

My answer is I would definitely want to, but I don't know if it would be feasible. If the game is a fantastic success it becomes more likely, but I could not commit to saying they would be added.

Might i suggest contacting some Youtuber's about your game? I doubt you'll see a response from a larger one like Totalbiscuit (guys about to get cancer surgery anyway) but there are some niche guys that play early access and beta builds of strategy games.

Some of the channels that I watch that may be of interest, i've linked you directly to their business contact details.

If you have time, watch this as well. These guys get lots and lots of requests, so the video has some tips.

Jebuz. Another 5k overnight while I slept and the minion goal hit. I guess the RockPaperSocialjustice article is paying off.

What is the scope of events? Are they just one-off things or can they take place over a longer period of time? Using Crusader Kings 2 as an example, the game has a lot of one-off events that will typically just gain/lose you a trait. Some actions (like having a summer fair) may spawn a larger number of related one-off events shortly after one another. They may be thematically rated but they don't affect one another. Finally there are a few events (Like the mouth of Hell) that stretch over a period of time. You generally have to wait a while to see the outcome of your decisions and there may be follow-up ones.

Which type of events are going to be the norm for TWS?

Also on the topic of stretch goals and scope - aren't you worried the $3000 tier may lose some of its lustre if procedural generation makes it in? (And it had better make it in!)

Caught this post right before going to sleep....

The majority of events are one-off because we use events as the results from Challenges, Combat, Military Conflict, etc so they perform that basic level of interaction. However, there are a lot of events that establish conditions that will then produce related events in the future, think more along the lines of King of Dragon Pass then Crusader Kings 2 - and there are also events that become modifiers which then spawn events depending on other circumstances, I suppose similar to what you mention above. So a Diplomatic Summit may occur because of a war, and this was prompted by a leader - this summit is now a "modiifer" at the target POI, it may spawn smaller events (which you may see if you infiltration or an agent) but also you can perform challenges against it (disrupt the summit, possess one of the diplomats, etc).

We lean towards "Events setting a modifier" which will then impact further events that spawn, these are not chained directly together but because events are so much more common in our game than Crusader Kings 2 (for example) the modifier of the event has greater impact on the next event that the leader/quest/campaign will spawn.

An example of a chained event, to give you an idea how we use events to solve most problems, would be summoning a devil. Let's say you perform a summon, and call up a lesser imp - you then choose from the event what you want the imp to do - the action enters into the engine with a resolution timer and checks for varying degrees of success, triggering another event when it is ready for you to give the imp more instructions. Another example where events chain together are Campaigns, which are multiple stage quests for Heroes. Each stage can have multiple events assigned to it, and the way in which you deal with will influence the varying level of success or failure the Heroes will have. We use events all throughout the game and in a wide variety of ways, all of which are accessible in the editor.

I'm not really worried about the 3k tier being devalued - procedural generation will never obsolete hand-crafted scenarios in my opinion. No matter how good the process is I still might want to play a quality Mordor Scenario or something similarly hand-crafted.

Diablo169, thanks for those links - we'll be checking those guys out.
