Dungeon Crawl Stone Soup is fun, even if very :rage: -inducing. There's a ongoing topic in Codex Playground, which started as a LP but evolved into a more general discussion.

Hmm, what is wrong with Nethack graphics? It's got all kinds of tiles and even isometric view if you use the GTK port or Vulture's Eye.

There's also support for the Slash'EM variant, although I really don't recommend Vulture's Claw (buggy as hell).

Have you tried TOME4? It's quite fun, not nearly as good as Nethack/crawl/ADOM but really worth a try. This is what the new graphics for it are supposed to look like:

edit: the above look is actually a planned improvement for 2011.

DoomRL is a really enjoyable one in current development now. The ASCII is a bit more slick and readable than most and the next major release is going to add tiles.

IVAN - pick your bananas, bitch!
sCthAngband - kill Shub-Niggurath with Long Sword of Awesomness
TOME (version 2.x.x) - experimenting with skills and items take you a looong time.
Try playing as Alchemist for extra fun.
Xenocide - sadly unfinished, but awesome SF roguelike. Try it, it's short.
Avanor - very good ADOM-lite. Short game.
    Gearhead - cool SF roguelike.
    Oh, and Valhalla was good.

    I see people suggesting gearhead...

I tried it but couldn't get past the horribly made weaboo graphics.

Is the game really any good? Because it sure made a bad impression.

Gearhead is pretty damn fun, especially mecha-mode once you get used to the controls, but the dungeons aren't too bad either.

Haven't played enough of the sequel to make a good comparison, but the original in ASCII is quite good.
