Morrowind at 7th place and now this?

picard.jpeg

I don't want to know the results of the first "Top 10" try and I have doubts that this one wil turn out better than the first. So I suggest adding this option to counter the stunts, and so every once somebody posts a non serious recommendation, Someone else might go against it, like in this example:

Top 10 of YOU'RE WINNER( - 5 points )

Morrowind
Halo
Oblivion

Keldorn, what the hell are you talking about?

I actually like Fallout 2 better than the original game; I think this is a result of having played the sequel first and appreciating the larger and more varied world, along with the subtle engine tweaks that make minor but nevertheless important improvements to its playability. Part of this preference is probably nostalgia, too; to my 12 year old self the Monty Python references were pretty damn funny and the hookers and rampant sex were HOTT with two T's.

None of this changes the fact that you're coming off as a bit of a lunatic. Why are you attacking Jasede so . . . dumbly? You keeping talking about absolute objective claims for some reason. For one thing, I'm pretty sure that Jased never claimed that his dislike of the Fallout games, particularly Fallout 2, is based on some objective truth; he said that the aburdist humor and whatnot in the sequel ruined the game for him, but that doesn't mean that he's claiming this to be universal in any way. (Although, if he was claiming this I think he would probably have sort of a point . . . even though I, personally, prefer Fallout 2, I imagine that any objective rubric of RPG quality would likely rate it as inferior to its predecessor.)

Also, Whoopi Goldberg sucks.

Yeah, those iced cappucino's really wind me up, and enhance my FO2 defensiveness... exponentially. But I still mean it.... from the heart... and with all due respect ....

FALLOUT 2 IS THE GREATEST GENUINE CRPG OF ALL TIME !!!!!!!!

FALLOUT 2 *****RRRRAAAAAAAAWWWWWKS****** YER CYNICAL BITCHWORLD !!!!!

(whew)

As for WG... we agree ... but are the 1000's upon 1000's of others who disagree with us about her suckiness/unfunniness literally *wrong* ?

Well, if it was according to me, everyone who considers Fallout better than Ultima 7-2 or Wizardry 6, 7 or 8 should be stoned, but-

Because Fallout 2 is so... bad. The jokes. The 4th-wall breaking. China-men in San Fran. Way of the dragon. A god-damn porn studion. Too many hookers. Everything felt so incoherent and pasted together, like a jigsaw puzzle where pieces have been modified with scissors to make them fit. The only thing I liked in Fallout 2 was... hmm... Vault City. (Then again, I am not a huge Fallout fan in the first place, though I do think Fallout 1 is leaps and bounds better than 2).

it just falls apart on every playthrough right after V-City > Gecko plot line to me.
New Reno, depending if I stumble upon it first or heading straight to NCR. Redding & Broken Hill was fine.

End game, you had to deal with a bunch of power armoured guards, your option is severely reduced to avoiding fight or hoping the next crit would be on them, not you.

I agree with Fallout 1's superiority to Fallout 2. With Fallout 1 I was hooked from beginning to end. Fallout 2 seemed to become convoluted and even though it had a bunch of different things to do, it lacked focus to me and I lost interest right after Vault City.

Hey guess what I did now!
I got this up to date. Not that it was hard, since there were like 3 lists on page 5.

Hm, lists. Yay! Have another one.

+3
Planescape: Torment
Shin Megami Tensei: Nocturne

+2
Jagged Alliance 2
Ultima IV
Vampire the Masquerade: Bloodlines

+1
Baldur's Gate II: Shadows of Amn
Darklands
Geneforge
Valkyrie Profile
Wizardry 6

Ignore Nocturne and Valkyrie Profile if this was supposed to exclude consoles. Probably doesn't matter either way, as I doubt either is going to accumulate a ranking score.

Man . . . our list is not what I would have expected. KOTOR2 above Ultima VII? NWN2 above TOEE? What the hell?

Maybe people think about new games before thinking about old ones?

It's a snapshot popularity contest, not a definitive bestest RPGs evar, so of course it's slanted in favour of more recent titles. Many won't have played much older stuff at all, and even those who have, assuming they played it vaguely near release, are likely to have more recent releases fresher in their minds unless they made a really exceptional impact. Considering how long these games tend to take to play, even restricting voting to people over 35 or something equally arbitrary wouldn't make all that much difference - I'd be hugely surprised if more than a tiny handful have played everything worthy of note in the genre. Reminds me, I really must get around to Wiz 8 one of these days. Haven't been able to work up the will for it, partly because I'd kind of like to start a party from 6 for the heck of it, but that'd be practically a second job for anything up to a year. 6 was the last one without automap, right?

Which nether Neverwinter Nights 2 nor KOTOR have in any meaningful quantity, even less than Temple of Elemental Evil, although KOTOR 2 has some ace writing on it's side and interesting characters. Too bad it was structured almost exactly the same as the first KOTOR with all quests basically being available to everyone and ending the same on almost all ways.

Don't be a doofus. NWN2, and KOTOR absolutely crush TOEE in terms of role-playing. L0LLIGAGZ! In fact, they're simply better games - role-playing or otherwise -. L0LLIGAGZ x2!

Eh? Lay off the crackpipe for a second Vol. Think of the glorious consequences you get with KOTOR - evil or not evil. Not got many complaints about NWN2 because I can't be arsed even torrenting it. KOTOR was a fun party turn based combat game, like ToEE, and is only superior if you like lightsabres. Remember - put the pink crystal in if you want to have a fairy wand..

Okay, how much can I actually role-play and make meaningful choices in each game? Temple of Elemental Evil had the vignettes, siding with certain temple groups, and a way to end the game very suddenly without combat.

What can KOTOR 2 boast of? No matter what, most all of the fights are completely unavoidable whatsoever. Talking to Atris and convincing her she is wrong...after an unavoidable fight. Talking down Sion....after beating him half to death 30 times. Talking to people at every level up to build influence so you can munchkinize them into Jedi. Oh wait....Mira and Hanharr. You could choose between two completely black and white characters....perfectly matching with all the black and white choices in Star Wars land.

And Neverwinter Nights 2? Forced companions, tons of stupidly easy combat, and illusory choices. I just killed 50 orcs, but being able to talk my way out of fighting two more is what makes this an amazing RPG experience! Great job being a master orator and barrister, player character! Now go fight that guy anyway.

They could have at least gone the Baldur's Gate route and embed most of the choices and consequences within party members, but for crying out loud, these "people" were just walking narratives who would spew out more of their backstory at a certain influence or level up increments. They wouldn't even leave you if you were an abusive jerk.
