tuluse , you can buy cures for the curse from the undead female merchant. Just be careful with those frogs, they aren't that dangerous if you pay attention.

This game is piss easy really. All you have to do is git gud how hard can it be? Jeez, some people.

 

The only part in Blighttown that made me rage on my first playthrough was that optional wobbly "bridge" and the jump to the Iato... When the bridge platform start shifting, you actually stay in-place...

 

Blighttown really teaches you to walk and not run everywhere.

Dropping into a hole in the Depth was one of the only moment in my life of gaming that really, really made me freak out.

Getting out of Blighttown and finally seeing the fucking sky was the moment that really, really made me burst in tears of happiness.

 

It's not as bad as lighting 1st Tomb of the Giants bonfire without the lordvessel.

 

Gaping Dragon was p disappointing. Boring and easy, beat it in fewer tries by half than any previous boss and I was cursed the whole time.

The design was... creative though; dat crocodile-dragon-vagina.

 

And these who jump into the hole because it must be a shortcut, and don't run up to the stairs into defensible position. Then again it's a shortcut of sorts, it allow bypass giant rats and get at them from other direction. However there is also a safe shortcut. It only looks like you'd end falling from 300 meters on some sharp rocks. (The place where you would be falling 300 meters down on sharp rocks is more meanie looking hole few floors bellow.)

Then combine it with giant rats and Kirk, and you can see how it could quickly become you are hollow yet again.

You can cure the poison and dodge the blow darts. If you want to talk bullshit, the skeleton archers in the Tomb of Giants are a strong contender (their arrows always hit you despite it being complete darkness and them being miles away).

 

They see in dark. They are GIANT skeleton archers. However when you don't get the lamp, going to the fireplace is PITA, and getting out is PITA as well.

 

Use the spider shield, which you get in the depths, and the toxic is blocked entirely. I guess I as the only person who went "blight town huh? I wonder if there's poison here."

Becomes much, much easier.

 

Watery Labyrinth Area in Shadow Tower would make Blighttown, Valley of Defilement, and The Gutter all rolled into one seem like a pleasure resort. The "watery" labyrinth is flooded not with poison but with ACID, which eats away at the durability of everything you have equipped, as well as at your health. And rather than being a mostly inconsequential mechanic, as in Souls, item durability is at the forefront of the game - everything has low durability (a weapon with over 20 max durability is likely to be an end-game greatsword) and degrades fast (each connecting weapon swing removes at least one point). Also, for every point lost, the item's properties are also reduced.

The only way to restore durability (other than using a limited quantity rare and expensive consumable, which only restores a few points of durability anyway) is to find a demon merchant who repairs any item to full using your life essence - i.e. he takes away your Hit-Points - with most decent items requiring nearly all of your HP to restore. And the only way to restore HP is through health potions, which are somewhat rare (though all of them restore your HP to full) or by having the demon merchant convert pieces of gear into health (and thus reducing the pool of spare gear you can use when your main stuff is close to breaking). So, even without trudging through a maze full of acid, there's a constant balancing act between durability, hit-points, available gear, and consumables.

Of course, none of these merchants are anywhere to be found in the Watery Labyrinth. And, as Shadow Tower is an RPG rather than a twitch-fest, taking off your armour to avoid it being eaten away by acid will vastly reduce your effectiveness, taking away health, defense stats, and even offense stats. Plus, you still have your weapons to worry about; you can't rely on magic attacks because in ST magic is cast from magic rings, taking away 1 point of durability for each attack, and with most rings having about 10 durability each. They will also face further corrosion as you stand in acid.

I don't think I need bother mention that the enemies fought in the area are some of the toughest hitherto faced. Including hordes of serpent-men who emerge from the acid in ambush and gangbang you with claws, unless you spot the tiny bit of rock in the distance that's sticking just out of reach of the acid's effect and walk slowly (yes, the acid of course reduces movement speed also) towards it so you can fight them on safer ground - at which point they'll just laugh and spit their own very deadly poison AoE onto the rock, forcing you to dive right back into the acid...

Fromsoft sadism at its finest.

 

Well that's level of difficulty: Asian. What did you expect from Japanese game?

Actually, I also learned, and when I see Russian game, that's playable, I reduce difficulty to easy, which is what the rest of the world calls hard.

 

Uhm, you can actually walk up right to the melee giant skeleton in the dark. They don't see you.

 

The thing about the archers is that they have horrible tracking, so they may as well be blind. They only become any sort of threat when you're getting gang-banged by the Black K***ht and Skele-dogs.

Personally I think Fromsoft should have armed them with Greatbows. Would have made Tomb of the Giants a lot more fun.

So game is on sale right now. I know the port is terrible (I think I can deal with that) but how crappy is this game on keyboard/mouse? Worth buying?
