Well, I'm in the Undead Burg right now, so I guess that might explain it. I guess it's not too bad, since you can generally tell you've been by the trail of dead assuming you don't die.

I don't really feel the "GOTY 2012!!!!!" everyone seemed to go crazy about so far, but it's some fun at least once I got used to the controls a little better. Also, the resolution fix makes the game chug pretty hardcore at point on my computer, unfortunately.

It's a long game. You'll have plenty of time to jizz your pants later on.

Fog doors are such a simple yet magnificent concept. You never know if there's a boss waiting behind or just a regular passage.

Btw. is there any vendor in this game that will buy my junk or can I safely drop it? Inventory management is getting atrocious the more stuff you carry. List showing 4 items max must be a new low.

Eventually, there is an NPC that will take stuff in exchange of souls. However, the exchange is so insignificant that you're best served by getting rid of whatever duplicates of what you don't need (the amount of souls you'll get isn't worth carrying them around or farming them).

You can stick whatever you want in the bottomless box, which is bought from either the male undead merchant or the first blacksmith - can't remember.

It's having humanity that gives you the defence/droprate boost, not being alive. Going human is just for multiplayer and kindling.

The mist didn't disappear, it just didn't allow you to go back until the problem has been resolved. You should expect there was some trouble when you seen it...

11 hours in, I think I can say with some degree of certainty that it's playable with keyboard and mouse, if that's dissuaded any members of the master race from giving it a proper go.

Mouselook is horribly jerky and imprecise (more so than an analogue stick!) but you don't need a fine degree of control so in the end it's an annoyance only in the rare occasions where you want to use a bow. The interface and keybinds are definitely subpar but don't really get in the way of the game after you've grown accustomed to them.

More annoying is the lock mechanic, as the only way of switching between locked enemies is moving the mouse left or right, which is stupidly imprecise. This wouldn't be an issue if there was some way of turning your character independent of movement since getting flanked even by shitty enemies is often deadly. In particular it would be tremendously helpful if you could make your character turn with the camera all the time rather than just when moving forwards. Not that it would be mitigated by using a controller, as far as I can tell.

Regarding the actual game, I like it. Contemplating buying it, even.

Acquired this and played for like 10 min. Looks horrible, controls are extremely bad too. Another one of "those" games eh? Well I'll see whats hidden inside...

Being alive doesn't mean you need to use allies, I've never used them myself. Extra defense and drop rate comes from stacking humanity, it has nothing to do with being alive or not.

I think if you haven't been lost in the middle of an area with only a few healing potions left and then invaded by an enemy player you just haven't played Dark Souls.

Going human also allows for NPC invasions, which are the only sources of some items. There are also NPCs available for summoning when human, like a pair of sunbros against the Gaping Dragon and a beefy naked chick against Quelaag.

What's a good, quick blade for DEXers? Using the Scimitar at the moment, feeling a bit underequiped. Going for a pure dex two-handed with magic buffs on this character.

How well does armor scale? Is there a known formula for the damage reduction? At the moment if I get hit I almost die instantly, but I figure that minor smithing won't change that much.

Made it to Blighttown. Course, I've detoured all across the place because I missed the stairway in Undead Parish ( :retarded: ) and taken out Hydra and Moonlight butterfly in the process. Got Wolf and Havel's ring out of it though, which was nice.

I liked the Balder side sword. It's a drop from the knights in undead parish.

Or bandit knife - drop from the thieves in lower burg.

I have an insane humanity score (22), but apparently all the wrong things are dropping for me.

Speaking of weapons, I've been using an upgraded spiked mace from the Burg merchant for the past 30 levels. The heavy jump attack one-shots pretty much all regular mobs, and it has a bleed effect on top of that. All the other weapons I find are inferior in one way or another; slow, unwieldy, or less damage. Should I use the rare crafting mats to upgrade it further or are there any replacements in sight?

Forgot to ask: Do these both have the same kick attack as the scimitar? It's not a kick, but a slice and then a very useful somersault backwards. Dash attack forward after a backwards dodge would be nice to keep as well, those two can be chained on almost everything.

Yeah, game looks beautiful for a console port now.

Only curved swords have the slash backward jump - so neither of those. Bandit knife has the highest critical score and Balder side sword has a great thrusting heavy attack.

Weapons really are a matter of taste. There is no 'best weapon'. Find something you like and go for it.

Black Knight halberd and lucerne are more personal favourites.

Bros, it's probably a retarded question, but how do I kick and jump attack with K+M controls? Have tried about every possible key combo i could imagine.

I like the game so far except jerky mouselook costs me deaths now and then. Probably lost around 10 humanity because of that. Gotta get a pad.
