Again, what exactly is your problem here?
    But:
WHAT THE FUCK DO YOU MEAN BY DEPTH PERCEPTION?

It's a fucking game. It doesn't perceive anything, including depth, and it's displayed on 2D screen which precludes allowing any sort of depth perception on part of the player, save for maybe DoF which is almost invariably shit and old games did perfectly well without it.

SPEAK COMPREHENSIBLE LANGUAGE YOU FUCKING FUCK.

Yes, and DX3 is probably the only game where:
    1. This seems to be conscious stylistics decision on part of the Devs, rather than specular, bumpmaps and low-res textures encounter gone horribly wrong as is usually the case.
    2. It doesn't seem to cause involuntary projectile vomiting on my part, curiously enough.

    I presume 1. and 2. are related.
Overall DX3 sports similar clean&sharp stylistics to System Shock 2, with uniform intensity fluorescent bits on stuff (sights in DX3, control panels in SS2), clean and sharp textures and so on. It also keeps its stylistics relatively subtle unlike modern cell shaded games and similar shit that makes me queasy just looking at YT videos.

It is gently embracing the black ops dude while the right arm prepares to inflict excessive trauma to his face?

Which has no bearing on NPC variety.
If anything it was easier to create it in older games (assuming no parametric/element composing sorcery like facegen) because models were coarse enough you could create diversity by just slapping different skins on them.

That plastic look turns a lot of people off, but I thought it looked fine. Going for realism and failing is often worse than going for a stylized look.

Indeed. Why should game graphics forcefully try to perfectly replicate reality all the time (and fail at it)?
A stylized look can work very well (I also think that Dishonored's style was executed well).

If anything I would have liked higher texture resolution (incidentally it's the same in Dishonored for me).

Edit: Well, there was one incident were I think the "plastic look" was too apparent in DXHR.
When you talk to the hooker/undercover cop in Detroit. Something about her didn't work. Too much specularity, I think. Somehow she stood out pretty much amongst the different NPCs, almost as if she got a slightly different style/art direction.

I did enjoy the DE3 art style ; but I still hope they go for something more conventional next time, only to see what a "normal" Deus Ex could look in HD.

However, considering they even are doing that treatment to Thief 4 I doubt this will happen. Man, color filters are so artsy.

    I wouldn't mind DX1 remake with DX3 style visuals.
    Could even use blue filter.

Keep story, emergent gameplay and level layouts unchanged and it might even be better than original.

Maybe go easy on the air vents, though.

And sort out the XP nonsense, which makes you first stealth a level, then clean it out

Only if you have power-leveling OCD. The game is easily completed on the hardest mode with half the XP they offer you.

One doesn't need to redo a whole level to take advantage of the skewed XP system; I stealth-knocked out every guard I could because XP gains were a key press away.

I'm just not one who really cares about the ability of OCD power-levelers to get their dicks hard. If that does it for you have at it. I don't see why developers should actively have to cock-block you. As long as I can play in a normal way I'm fine.

    :hmmm:
And how exactly is refraining to explicitly put in activity dependent XP bonuses in game "actively cockblocking" anyone?

They wanted to reward different playstyles, which in a game like DX makes a lot of sense. The fact that some strange people will try to maximize their XP reward by finishing objectives in multiple ways all at once doesn't really harm the system for anyone. The people who aren't insane will play in a normal way, earn their rewards and have plenty of XP to finish the game. The weirdos get to indulge their inner desires and MAXIMIZE THE XPS!!!

    Everyone wins.

Preferential rewarding of particular playstyles, however, doesn't.

I just don't obsess over 10 extra XP here and there when the game is easily completed without it on the hardest settings. It's just so below my care radar I'm barely aware it exists.

Multiply by the amount of terminals and enemies, add lump sums for stealth. You get pretty large sums.
But only if you use particular playstyle and engage in pointless activities a lot.

Activity dependent universal XP is the scourge of RPGkind.

Only to people who want ALL THE XPS!!!!! As I said. The vast majority play how they want to play and take the rewards as they come, and they all finish the game just fine. The fact your brain tells you "stealth gives 10 more XP, hacking the door anyway if you have the code still rewards XP, I MUST DO THESE THINGS" is on your own head.

Yes. J.E. Sawyer would go to great lengths to prevent Draq from boosting his XP through OCD insanity. I just never saw the point. Same thing with save scumming. Let people break games if they want, it's a PC tradition! Who cares?

Why design games where the greatest reward is playing the most retarded way?
