It won't for lacking the total mod support, and yes Two Worlds II or even Amalur are better than Skyrim out of box but almost noone replays them thanks to this.

 

I had downloaded the beta early and got through the initial dungeon to the starter island. I killed some wolves and talked to some quest givers. I know that isn't much. I suddenly got overwhelmed by incredible boredom. I didn't log in again during the beta weekend. I played Banished again, which I found more exciting.

Despite my obvious enthusiasm, I don't think this will be a failure for Zenimax. The price of the box is high enough to already give quite a bit of return of investment for them. Who knows, there seem to be enough fans of this.

 

I was half tempted by SWTOR; GW2; WAR; AoC; TSW; EQ2; FFXIV... and disappointed by all of them at one point or another after the first month, but i have this mmo itch i have to scratch since i have up WoW 7 years ago, its always there, trying to capture the feeling of vanilla WoW (first mmo i played with any kind of dedication), its like that first time you do cocaine... never the same.

 

You won't be hitting that itch here, bro - I know what you mean, but this just ain't it.

 

Yep, I was thinking the same when I first tried it and then realized that it couldn't even fulfill that basic experience.

 

For me the main problem was that I couldn't stop comparing it to Skyrim. At best it's vanilla Skyrim with latency and random people jumping around your quest objective. I played Skyrim for ~40 hours because I had open world-ish scratch to itch but after that the deep issues with the game became clear to me. Now with teso I see these flaws from the beginning so I get nothing from "Skyrim Online" experience (especially without mods). The price doesn't help either.

I think that many people will have the same problem with it and won't resubscribe after the first month.

I'll try the next beta since they've added collision and skip-able tutorial island but I doubt it'll change my mind.

 

Yeah, i think the next beta will be what brakes or makes my will to spend or not the 35 euros i need to dish out for the game at kinguin.

 

Really the only thing that annoys me about mmo's this bad is that they don't fail hard enough, to make the most satisfying drama.

 

You have consumer society to thank for that.

Now, if we lived in a proper corporate tyranny* dystopia, a proper failure would see some public TV executions, riots in the street, and hackers spreading the truth.

You pay for the age of decline by paying for crap like this, you get the age of decline (and drag everyone else along with you).

 

I enjoy an MMORPG once in a while myself and decided to take TESO for a whirl.

It is pure fucking shit. And it has a console UI too, which makes it even shittier than it already is.

 

The funny thing to me is that Zenimax could easily make a more open world MMO from the start (just an open world, not sandbox) and TES fans would probably be spazzing over it, even though it would be the same shit.
Instead they have gaming sites complaining about how much this isn't Skyrim because you get killed by a mudcrab if you wander off too far.

For fucks sake, WoW feels more open world.

 

I hope the shit is flushed down the toilet soon.

 

The only mmo worth playing at this point (besides eve online) is ToR. Because it's not an mmo.

 

TSW is worth playing too, but for the same reason.
