"but the 2 million sales figures is presumably referring to full-game sales across Xbox One, PS4, and PC. (A Nintendo Switch version is also on the way--more on that below.)"
    Picked from the gamespot's article.
"Presumably" i take that with a grain of salt.

    Does that matter?
Zenimax owns both Bethesda and ESO.

Yes, because it would have little to do with what Bethesda Game Studios is actually working on.

You're confusing Bethesda the publisher with Bethesda the developer.
ESO is developed by Zenimax Online.

I know, i just wanted accuracy. You said Bethesda, it isn't totally correct, you were talking about Bethesda games studio the developer not Bethesda which as a whole is the publisher.
Fallout was well known after fallout 3 and ads improved Fallout new vegas sale figure on the contratry Outer worlds is a totally new IP. And for a New IP it sold well.
    I wanted accuracy.

If Zenimax tells Bethesda not to do an Elder Scrolls game, Bethesda doesn't do an Elder Scrolls game. Period.

How do you think ownership works?

Zenimax isn't the publisher, it's the owner.

Bethesda SOFTWORKS is the publisher. Bethesda GAME STUDIOS is the developer. Both are owned by Zenimax media.

"we want to make a sequel to one of the best selling games of all time"
"no, even though it might end up getting more people playing our MMO that's set in the same universe"
idk doesn't seem like a sound business strategy to me

It might take players away from ESO.
I don't think so myself, but I imagine Zenimax is full of businessmen who are more risk averse.

    Any business people here?

Any rules of thumb about releasing competing products from the same company?

They don't give a shit. In both cases, money flows.
Anyway they 'll probably release ES6 when ESO2 will be in production and ESO development will be finished.

ESO doesn't require a subscription to play.
It would be bad to time it near an ESO expansion release, otherwise it would just be free advertising.

Imagine Microsoft releasing a different browser from Explorer, but also keeping Explorer.
Why have two competing products when you can just focus your energies on one?

Skyrim gave them more money and more players in one release than every work in ESO.

If TES6 is too successful, it might turn people off ESO.

    How do you know?

Maybe ESO has a bunch of whales spending thousands a year on in-game purchases.
