Except for the police raid after Bo Anderson got kicked out, this is nearly a blow-by-blow repeat of the fall of 3D Realms due to Duke Nukem Forever.

I thought that George Broussard's behavior during the development of Duke Nukem Forever would have taught a lesson to people in the gaming industry. Clearly I was mistaken.

"Also in May 2015, Starbreeze announced it had bought the Valhalla game engine with shares worth 73m SEK (around £6m). The plan was for Valhalla to power all of Starbreeze's games, but the engine itself was near unusable, according to those who had to use it. According to these people, Valhalla was, essentially, a renderer. "There wasn't even a file open button when we got it," one person said. "It was impossible to use. And this is when it all started to get a bit fucked up."

Didn't Starbreeze go full SJW? That should tell you all you need to know.

Was thinking of ex-Starbreeze employees who went on to work on SJWenstein games, those MachineGames idiots.

TL:DR Invested in VR and bought a shit engine.
In conclusion; manager should have sticked to his roots (business) and not fooling himself that he has a clue about tech.

No, it's not. Except engine changes, there's little resemblance. Only Broussard's mismanagement and misguided sense of perfectionism were main problems. There were no crunches, no mistreatment and no pressure. During 00s it came down to people starting to get bored and disinterested because their work wouldn't matter, which contributed to many people quiting. And right when Broussard realised he couldn't manage for shit and hired people who could, money simply run out. There were no shady deals, no shitty launches of stillborn games, no CEO/Board of Directors politics.

Riddick Escape from Butcher Bay was a brilliant game and technical marvel when it was released.
I say that as someone who's never even bothered watching a single Riddick film.
It was followed by an extremely average/poor & short sequel.
    Then the crappy Syndicate game.
...after that I can't say I followed anything they released or even heard of them ever again.
A one hit wonder as far as I'm concerned.

That's a really good article. There should be more pieces like this instead of the utter garbage that comes from a lot of these sites. Props to the writer.

From demanding their money back from the System Shock 3 team to this, it seems the end is coming ever closer.

This is what you get for not porting Darkness 1 to PC.

I am still unclear on 3 points.

    1. Who are these guys?

    2. What did they even do?

    3. Why should I care?

Man, am I glad that Mohawk Games and Soren Johnson were able to break ties with these guys. Here's hoping that 10 Crowns turns out to be good.

before Riddick there was Enclave, great third-person action game in the vein of Rune and Severance BoD.

Dark Athena was anything but poor and short. I personally liked it more than Butcher Bay (also Raven was a cool antagonist) and the length was only barely shorter. You also forgot to mention the underrated The Darkness.

Also Knights of the Temple came out after Riddick and was pretty fun. It was short and decent, but the music is just chef's kiss.
