With the amount of Indie games around lately and the wildly fluctuating level of quality in them it's often quite hard to figure out which ones are worth playing. That is, if you even heard of the game. Lets try to remedy that by keeping a list of Indie games that are at the very least good for what they are. Recommendations are more than welcome. Introducing Stealth Bastard: stealth, with a great big kick up the arse. A fast-paced, frenetic, one-step-away-from-chunky-death melange of sneaking, platforming, hacking and cursing. A whole lot of fun. It's like Metal Gear Solid and Super Meat Boy had a baby out of wedlock. Semi-literally.

Mount and Blade should count as well.

Also, thread needs moar roguelikes. I fap to ADOM personally, but there's more out there.

I can vouch for all of these being excellent games for excellent bros. There are other good indie games, but these are for the most part the best ones off the top of my steamy head you missed.

Jumper? SMB is not shitty anything. It has super-tight gameplay, incredibly precise controls, great music and sound and shows an ultra old-school spirit both in gameplay and difficulty. I have nothing but huge respect for that game. Extremely well executed at every level as well.

Uhm, it's a shitty copy of Jumper.

And I don't mean like inspired or anything. It's an EXACT copy.

I don't know the background of this game called Jumper nor have i played it, but on that video it looks like it's much shittier than SMB. Movement of character in Jumper doesn't look nearly as flexible and precise as in SMB and that's one of the major gameplay forces in SMB.

Not exactly that anyone making a platformer today has any illusions about making something new. If you're copying some design element, better be honest about it and make it obvious. This game invalidates SMB in no way and SMB seems to be way better.

I've been lurking these forums a while, due to agreement with the general sentiment regarding :decline: in gaming. I figured it was worth finally posting to recommend my favorite indie game, since I don't see it on the list.

The game is Knytt Stories
http://nifflas.ni2.se/?page=Knytt+Stories

It's a fairly small, simple game, but it combines really atmospheric visuals with really good ambient music, and is all about exploring environments in a non-linear fashion.

It also has a level editor. The 'Knytt Stories' program itself is basically a menu for running any levels you've downloaded. But it comes with a few levels made my the game's creator, the main level being 'The Machine'. So, really I'm recommending 'The Machine'. There's also an expansion ('A Strange Dream') with another great level by the creator. As for the user-made levels that are out there, they range from terrible to pretty good.

P.S. The list of games above includes most indie games I've heard of. It makes me wonder what are all the shitty indie games people are saying give indie games a bad name.
