I thought I was the only one who noticed.

I mean it's almost as bad as Warden's obsession with Gaider. Almost

whats the fucking aroudn with pathfinding
essentialy every realtime game in 1998 never ever ever considered other agenst as fucking obstacles
hell today even with physicks being intorduced the problem ist that agesnts have to deal with dynimac geography which is intense
so stop fucking crying over ie pathing
it was alright it onyl uscked if another chara was in the awy and the systems essentiallly did what it was supposed to do it searched a* for a new path fucking newfags btichers

hell in ie2 i thing it was so that they introduced a delay so they would wait if they hit a bottleneck morans.

If they kept track of turn-timing, added stuff like attack of opportunity and made sure you couldnt make moves without proper initiatives/attacks/etc....

would you guise be OK with RTWP?

I would be thrilled if they would release some more infinity engine games....and I thought they are decent when they were first released.

    Decline I guess..... :x

Playing Icewind Dale with all the mods right now. GREAT atmosphere.

Forgot about that one since it was lacking so many updates I thought it was dead. No?

To bad we didnt get the same amount of games in the IE engine as we did the Gold Box. What was that like 11 games if you include the sci-fi games?

What did we get 5 in the IE engine? Not counting the expansions....

Yes 5 (off the top of my head). TO be honest, If some devs Suddenly decided to completely expand on and improve on the Gold Box Game mechanics, and release a game with it, I would not be posting right now. I'd be too busy playing it.

Because it's terrible. It doesn't have any pros of tb, like better AI than in rt games, tactical options (x-com, ja2, wiz 8 compared to that overglorified pos bg2) or real-time (VISCERAL action!).
Instead, it has many cons of the above, like dumb AI.
It's a creature that should've never existed. A disgusting mutation which only succeeded because bg allowed many teenagers to live out their fantasies in the most generic fantasy setting ever created.

IE primarily gets praised because of Baldur's gate 2 and to a lesser extent Planescape: Torment. But, quality of those games had very little to do with combat engine and AI. We all know what Torment's strenghts are.

The reason that Baldur's gate 2 is rated so highly is that it had every cosmetic element done perfectly: graphics and art made it a great looking game (I still can't find a better looking RPG), sound was great, adding to the atmosphere, particularly when it comes to the feel of Athkatla as a big city, the user interface was nearly perfect (again, in my opinion the best interface in a RPG), with everything important just a click or two away. It was also highly customizable, with different auto pause and feedback options to suit different tastes. Add high level DnD, pretty good encounter design, more or less solid writing and good voice acting to that and flaws of the combat system and AI, as well as shallow roleplaying, especially in comparison to Fallout, get overshadowed.

That doesn't change the fact that IE is a huge pile of shit compared to good party based combat engines like the one in Jagged Alliance 2. However, in comparison to modern game engines, shit becomes good.

While this is true, I don't think this caused too much harm to the genre. With TB, the only thing that would have changed is the combat. It is not like we would have dozens of great TB RPGs, if the infinity engine didn't exist.

Which is a good reason to not use RT.

Because it has made TB "outdated" in the eyes of the public.

You give too much credit to Bioware. The spread of real time combat system was inevitable, IE or not. There were other games using RT even before the IE.

Sadly this is true. When the IE games were new I thought they were decent but didn't like the real time combat. Now compared with todays garbage they seem great!

Baldur's Gate 2 is loved because of it's excellent combat encounters and large game world.

Nobody will argue that the story is deep but it was more then decent enough, i would even say that it is excellent compared to the drivel they make up now.
