In fairness, he removed the posts of my interlocutors as well, so at least he was evenhanded about it. Still seems silly that a discussion of sexism and related issues is off-topic in a thread about someone who was attacked with, among other things, sexist remarks.

Unfortunately, part of my rhetorical strategy was to plead deference to the mods -- "If what I say is really SO offensive, the mods will intervene" -- so it would undermine my position a bit to complain over mod intervention now that they have actually taken that step.
