"Fucker gave my game a low score. He clearly doesn't know anything, 0/10. Metacritic, I'm back! I'm sorry for leaving you : ("

    Aggregate review ratings, smart guy.

Metacritic user reviews are pretty accurate.

They are all more objective than "critic" reviews.

No. Not all. Very few. We don't want to be shrill, just harsh.

Yes, they are all more objective. I'm not talking about the quality. I'm talking about the motivation behind the rating or review. Even a fanboy reviews out of solely his personal opinion. And if he presents a opinion you think is stupid - That's fine. The aggregate rating from the entire population is still going to be more objective than the aggregate rating of journalists that have conflicting sources of influence.

Also, I'm currently talking about an alternative to Metacritic, not the earlier idea of getting the Codex/newsite onto Metacritic.

EGM had a reviewer named Sushi-X back in the day that was kind of an "untouchable" in the sense that he was anonymous and not always the same person. They would all use this persona to write harsher reviews and say dumb stuff that they probably couldn't have gotten away with otherwise. I thought that was pretty neat, even if they were just doing it to be funny. Of course, nowadays EA would just ask the website to fire the guy.

So, you need to get anonymous reviewers (immune to editors) at every major site, lock them in the basement to make them "untouchable," and stop game companies from marketing on review sites. Then you will be golden.

Hey guyz some new Mass Errect 3 info http://gamingeverything.com/15799/mass-effect-3-gets-first-review/
    :
BioWare forum member “hagren” transcribed quite a few points from the review, which you can find below. We’ll add in any additional details and scans we come across to this post.
    -15-20 hour-long main quest
-Around 40 hours playtime in total- side missions are vital to amass enough opposition to the Reaper threat
    -90 minutes of cutscenes
-No loose ends or cliffhangers, the game is truly an appropriate end to the trilogy with a very intense and touching finale
-More than 100 scenes, conversations and/or events change depending on our choices after importing a save-game from ME2- from something small like someone thanking us for completing a mission to bigger repercussions which would be to spoilerous to write down- you are definitely going to feel the consequences, and not always like them
-SPOILER: In order to rally allies, we search for a cure for the Genophage, build a Prothean weapon, disarm a Cerberus bomb before it destroys half of a moon, and are even inserted virtually in a computer program
-If and how many of these quests we complete influences how the game ends, and who- individually and globally- survives
-While the game can be enjoyable for newcomers as well, because the game is strong on its own mechanically and story-wise, it is recommended to play the first two entries to make more sense out of the wealth of information that the game builds on
-There’s an interesting sequence after the end credits
-The „Role-Play“ mode of the game (In contrast to „Action“ and „Story“) feels very much like ME1
-The game gives you more opportunity to customize your Shepard. Each class has 8 talents with 6 levels each, and up from Level 4 there are two branches to choose from to level up each individual talent differently. Weapon customization is also a factor and noticeable, but the effects (which have both pros and cons) are only marginal
    -Balancing isn’t optimal
-The game is noticeably more difficult up from „Medium“, which makes using the correct weapon mods and talents integral to survive. Shepard also shoots more accurately in cover.
-The AI, on the other hand, is still not very advanced
-SPOILER: You are going to visit Krogan ruins, a Geth ship and the Turian moon Palaven, among others
-There are multiple turret sections which aren’t very well directed
-Despite the shortcomings in level design, which are similar to ME2, the game is constantly thrilling, spectacular and dramatic- largely thanks to the well-presented story and dialogue- and there are lot of small and large choices again to ponder on
-Scanning isn’t nearly as repetitive as before, because it works a lot quicker now and incorporates a new mini-game where you have to navigate your ship away from Reaper threat
-The new melee option is fun, but a little overpowered
-Graphically, the low polycount, lack of detail and low texture resolution disappoints- the characters are well animated and modeled however, and the overall look, despite its age, is quite moody
    -Great dynamic soundtrack and sound-effects
-Our progress in the war effort is constantly trackable on a terminal on the Normandy
In summary, the game builds on the strenghts of ME2 and takes some notes from ME1 to create the most compelling experience in the franchise yet.

Here's what needs to happen. As soon as video gaming becomes an old enough pastime, there will be at least a few gamers out there who grow up and manage to become millionaires, but still remain loyal to their old hobby.
They could fund objective websites that are free of publisher influence, and lure all the best writers from the old tainted websites with higher salaries.

I wouldn't be surprised if cinema went through a similar process at one point.

I don't know for sure, but I think movie reviews were originally done in newspapers, which didn't rely heavily on Hollywood advertisement. Of course, you had people like William Randolph Hearst who had a hand in newspapers and Hollywood but that is something else.

True. Which begs the question, will movie reviews become less objective now that old media is dying?

How have they written the story so that people are plausibly reluctant to help you against the Reapers? Or is it not plausible at all?

    Your ignore list.
If half of these things are actually true, then ME3 will be quite enjoyable despite all the derp.

He's correct. People think the game is better if they are told the game is better before they buy it. Its a proven fact.

Need to get anonymous involved somehow. Alternatively convince Metacritic that all user reviews should be included in the default score for the game and "reviewer" reviews should be a footnote, which would be the correct way to run a site called "metacritic".

Has anyone actually tried to get the codex up there? I mean journalistic integrity isn't exactly at a high point these days. I bet some google-fu + working version of codex under a different name could get in with enough repeated attempts.

Why A Video Game Blockbuster Will Finally Allow You To Be A Gay Man

No gay option! Is this an RPG or fucking Tetris?

That says a lot about what kind of games they are and what kind of people they're meant for.

Who here is willing to LARP Professional Gaming Journalist? Let's assume we managed to get a nice, organized group of people and churn out a reasonable number of reviews(of all genres of games, old and new) per month/week, like some sort of prestigious magazine, would it change anything? gimmicks or not (actually everyone I can think of a few easy gimmicks to attract a wider audience)
    results, post them

Now that you mention it, the endings sound like a set up for a sequel

Actually, IMDB is a pretty reputable site that focuses mainly on user reviews/ratings.

Which is why IMDB ratings are not to be trusted.
