Guys I installed the new Greyface 2.4 patch for Might and Magic 6 and now no matter what I choose the game opens in a window even in widescreen mode with the system bar... any tips on how to turn it into borderless widescreen or simply fullscreen (with black bars of course)

Just finished MM3 with a score of 0678702659. I thought it was better than WoX until the last couple hours. Terminators and Medusas are dumb enemies that either get one-shot or prompt a reload with stone/eradication. It's cool that there are way more ultimate power orbs than you need, so you have some choice of which ones to go for.

There's just enough to give 10 to each king and one final one to which side you align with. Did you not do that? Did you not maximize your xp? YOU FAILURE?!?

Tried Christian Coder's mod for Xeen and didn't like it at all. I cleared Clouds and decided I'd had enough, while it ramps up the challenge for people who've played it 100 times and does add some nice features it also makes the game tedious as hell. Having to constantly clear trash gets old really quick and some enemies are way overpowered, I finally had to teleport past Darzog because it was literally impossible to avoid having my entire partied stoned by three turns, not even Lord Xeen was that dangerous.

Are there any good mods for 6/7/8 for people who've played them a million times? I haven't tried any yet.

Good, not that i know of, there's the chaos conspiracy but undead casters are a real pain, cellar with witches here, cave with 50 power lich ambushing you there, the usual modding hell.

...Is it worse than Castle...Darkmoor I think, in MM6? Because that's a hell of an acomplishment if it is.

What are you talking about, Castle Darkmoor is an awesome dungeon. I really missed something like that in mm7-8.

Way worse, the lichs respawn when you leave and come back, there is a kind of crossroads just next to the entrance and power lichs comes from all sides.
    That's how it goes :
Cursed! MP drain, mp = 0! Cursed, cursed, cursed!
You : MP potion ... Remove curse!
Cursed! MP drain, mp = 0!
    ...
    And so on...

I remember two other dungeons with archdruids or something, it's more or less the same than with the lichs, less of them but they have more hp and one drain = 0 MP left ...

Besides that, it's alright, nice even to have a different main quest, still ...

Well screw that, I just went through that kind of bullshit with the Xeen mod. There's a perfectly good reason why dungeons stay cleared out for a time.

Oh, god, that sounds terrible. And this is part two of the mod right? Because I remember trying to install that and it was a pain, because there were two parts, one and two, and part two didn't have any towns.

Continuing my playthrough today and the beginning's grindfest is over

I took the quest and now I'm exploring the land of Varn. Now makes sense the food and rest system and why the characters get uncouncious instead of dying, is a good way to avoid the "save anywhere" command.

After a sort of recommendation in another thread, I went on GOG and purchased M&M from 1 to 8. For anyone interested (although if you're reading this thread, you probably already own them), there's a huge sale of the series.

Anyway, does anyone here have any recommendations on which game to start with eventually? I had a look at 1 to 2 and they're not for me so I won't be playing these. 6 to 8 are definitely my cup of tea (real time exploration, with turn based combat). Now I'm not sure of 3-5, do they require actually using graph paper to make a map? Is the UI intuitive? Can you save when you want to? I'd like to give them a go but given I'm new to the series, and my first party-based first person RPG is Wizardry 8 (which I'm really loving), I've come here for some experiences anyone might want to share.

    Cheers.

3-5 are very user friendly IMO, especially if you prefer keyboard shortcuts, but rather too simplistic for my taste, at least the combat.
They have auto-maps, and since mapping challenges is not what M&M is about, there's no need for manual mapping.
    IIRC you can save anywhere.

I found World of Xeen to be the easiest starting point.

M&M III is already a modern game, the UI is good, it has auto-mapping (you need to learn a skill first) and you can save anywhere, and you have hirelings if you want to recruit some (IV and V don't have them).

The only problem is sound effects (same goes for IV, V and swords though) which are alright to fairly broken when running with a modern computer, there a lot of help out there giving you the "right" settings (there is always one sound or another sounding weird though).

M&M VI is also a good starting point but Isles of Terra ( III ) is my favorite and it's also Might & Magic fans favorite.

Both Isles of Terra and World of Xeen are great entry points, both are very accessible and userfriendly. My favourite part of the series is Darkside of Xeen, I find the overall design of the world, the enemies and dungeons more creative than in Clouds of Xeen and really enjoyed the darker atmosphere compared to Clouds. Isles of Terra has still a special place in my heart, it was the first M&M I tried my luck with, many decades ago. The "newer" parts of the series never captured my interest for long though, too much combat for my taste and the quirky VGA-graphics of III-V are just an integral part of the typical Might&Magic flair for me.

Kek, just use "Etheralize". There is no drowning mechanic and your party walks on water as soon as it enters deep water. :) As far as I know "Water walk" only can be cast by Druids... which are an nuisance and absolutely needless in MM3. Forget about them, just use "Etheralize".

But there is a druid NPC and outside, teleport does the job most of the time.
Bonus, there boats is to travel to distant islands and the swimming skill to cross rivers.

Worlds of Xeen is very pretty, and has objectively more stuff in it than M&M 3, but I actually recommend playing 3 first. It's kind of like Fallout 1 vs 2. Fallout 2 has more stuff, but that kind of bogs it down. Like Fallout 1, Might and Magic 3 is a very concise and self-contained game. It doesn't take that long, and arguably has better pacing than Worlds of Xeen. While both games are great in their own right, bigger is not always better.

Interesting point of view but the art direction, while interesting in Darkside is a matter of taste, i know i prefer Terra, mostly because of Darkside darker colors (those purple goblins ...).

Also Isles of Terra is anything but short (it's bigger than Clouds or Darkside taken separately), according you don't replay it 2 times in a row or follow a walkthrough, it could take quite some time to complete.

Well, I guess I meant relatively. The game is not quite as long as some of the others in the series. I would say most people would be able to finish 3 before something like M&M 1, 6, or even 4+5.
