    <a target=_blank href=http://www.strategyfirst.com>Strategy First</a>'s <b>Richard Therrien</b> gave us more info on the other Jagged Alliance game currently in production (in addition to Jagged Alliance 3) in <a target=_blank href=http://www.strategyfirst.com/forum/cgi/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic;f=47;t=000002>this thread</a> in the <a target=_blank href=http://www.strategyfirst.com/forum/cgi/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=forum;f=47>JA3 forum</a>:
    <br>
    <ul><i>They are both turn based tactical games. Totally different settings and backgrounds though. I won't say more until some official announcement is made on this topic. This should underline the fact that we are taking the JA franchise very seriously.
    <br>
    <br>
    The two games, since they share the same code base for the most part and since they should also be able to share the same tool base make sense to do on the programming side. On the art side, of course, it is more resource intensive, and so is it on the design side</i></ul>
    <br>
    <br>
    That's great! Maybe instead of having a sci-fi mode in Jagged Alliance 3 like in JA2, they're making a realistic JA3 and a sci-fi spin-off?

    Hell, I'd love a sci-fi spin-off. Bring on the rocket rifles, oversized bugs and cats. Could also be that they're set in different time periods, one more contemporary and the other either in the "future" or the past.

    I have actually been dreaming of a JA in space for years. Running a merc company in a galaxy far far away...

    DROOOL!

    It's either that - or medieval (either fantasy or historic), which would be pretty cool as well.

    Hopefully they'll stay away from yet another WWII game...
    That particular sub-genre is over done.

    Yeah. I'd just LOVE to see a medieval, or better yet, Steam Age setting with the JA2 turn based scheme. Either way, it'd work. Bows, crossbows, daggers and swords, or flintlocks, gatling guns, and high powered elephant guns.

    Or maybe it's a console spin-off?

    No, it's not. Strategy First has no console devs.

    I think JA2 just needs to stick with its gritty B-Movie merc mentality with the same mix of humor.

    Medieval non-fantasy tactical turnbased combat sims?
    Not at all.

    Or maybe even earlier stuff...
    Take command of a small Germanic or Celtic warband as you raid Roman settlements, battle rivals and ultimately try to claim a position as chieftan in the Rhineland Gaul...

    Jagged Alliance: Dark Ages!

    Or, of course, aim for around 900:

    Jagged Alliance: Vikings!

    On the contrary, I think it would be very good. As Jagged Alliance does tend to fit into the definition of a dungeon-crawler if you look at it in terms of mechanics (if it had a fantasy setting, it would have likely been labeled as such), the mechanics of the Jagged Alliance games do tend to be more thought out than most others.

    Even if it was high fantasy, it certainly would beat a lot of the overhyped bullshit that has been spewed onto the market, especially most of the Infinity Engine combat screensavers.

    I'd like to see a sci-fi setting over a fantasy.

    Maybe an X-Com reincarnate?

    Its not turnbase, and its not squadbase, but I thought M:TW, had a good representation of battlefield tactics in the medieval era. For instance, it would be insane for calvary to charge uphill against saracens, or for men at arm's to march under the raining terror of the infamous english longbowmen, without first trying to flank them with light cavalry.

    I think it'll be space based and you get to take over entire solar systems in some loose confederacy or something along those lines. Yippeee.

    Well, the thing about a fanasty setting is that it's never been done like that before. There have been modern and sci-fi games where you can knock down walls with bullets and rockets and such, but there's never been one where a wizard could knock down a wall with a fireball or a warrior could great axe through a wall, and so on.

    If it's fantasy, I suppose it might be set in Disciples setting, since it's also owned by SFI...

    The Disciples setting pretty much rocks ass - but I doubt that certain "rich" graphical style they have adopted for these games would work well in 3d - or even in a series like JA. I think I'm hoping it's not.

    How come noone has mentioned a western yet? That would work.

    Huh. That would work very well, actually.

    As would feudal Japan....

    I don't know... I kinda like the old banana-republic setting that was used in the previous JA-games. Also, one of the strengths of JA was that some mercs kept coming back in sequels, which of course would be rather impossible if you would make a JA in a midieval or distant future setting.

    A JA game based in another timeframe as the previous ones just wouldn't be a JA game, simple as that. As a longtime JA player, I've grown quite attached to some of the mercs, as well as the entire setting.

    I just couldn't live with Ivan Dolvich the French knight or Ivan 'Cyborg' Dolvich... Don't change a winning team, people.

    Well, as long as they're not giving us one instead of the other I have no problem with this, but I do see what you're saying Jebus. But JA3 with another JA game as an added bonus, that can't be a bad thing - can it?

    Yeah, it's not as if they're changing the setting for JA3. They're just making a spin-off in a different setting in addition to JA3.

    But then I don't think it should go under the JA flag...

    It's kinda the same principle as with FO:POS, really.
