Eh, I lost my Obsidian fanboyism a while ago and honestly do think Feargus is shady. I do have some hope in Tim/Leonard for this game. Anyway, all that doesn't stop these tweets from being over the top/out of touch with whats being actually said. I mean he could have made fun of the focus on the companions, the flaw system, the art style , the non-existant space travel and the setting easily. And yet he chose to shitpost randomly.

That's why I don't really get the intention behind the tweets.

It feels good to test the limits of edginess but who are you going to impress with this sort of rhetoric here?

Emotions aside, it's just a fact of reality that M$ has bought both Obsidian and inXile. I didn't read the entire thread about the acquisitions but the replies I saw were mostly sarcastic and negative. However there's very little the Codex could possibly do. If your post is a call to boycott all their future games out of principle - well, it's a healthy position but good luck persuading everybody.

Both companies had their flaws. Some loved their games and some hated them (but I'd rather avoid yet another round of PoE holy war). Personally, I just wonder who will pick up the torch. Because the niche previously populated by inXile and Obsidian now suddenly stands empty.

My prediction is that the void will be filled - perhaps not instantly, but soon enough.

I don't really see any intentional animosity towards Bethesda either, yet he insists on it and keeps tagging them in on those claims. Wants to make sure that bridge stays burnt.

What’s so hard to understand about MCA’s trolling here? Obsidian compared TOW to KOTOR 2, MCA’s baby, and it clearly made him very pissed off. At this point we know Avellone really dislikes when people incorrectly give him credit for work he didn’t do. Imagine how he feels when he sees new Obsidian devs seemingly taking credit for stuff he mostly did with people who are no longer at the company.

I don’t think his butthurt is super justified, though. Obsidian brought up KOTOR2 because it’s a good example of the hub based system that they’ll be using, and, given the prevalence of open worlds these days, KOTOR2 was the smart analogy.

Is there any update on the MCA saga? Did Ferg make peace with Chris like a real man and hired him back to the family?

If Ferg wants to grow Obsidian to ~200+ people he better gets MCA back on board too dammit.

So I haven't been following this: but it seems MCA gave this game his seal of approval, and now it's gonna b really gud?.

I don't think it was about credit. The original comparison was essentially "KOTOR2 style but bigger and better". Chris has many regrets and criticisms re: KOTOR2, so the name-dropping to build hype must've rubbed him the wrong way.

 

Yeah, whatever. I like the KOTOR2 structure, so that bit of news increased my hype.

 

As far as I know, nobody who worked on KOTOR 1 worked on KOTOR 2, yet KOTOR 2 had the same structure more or less.
I don't know what Chris is trying to achieve by pointing this out.

 

I think he's saying that KotOR 2 tried for too much content in too little development time, and trying to go for even more would be a bad takeaway from KotOR 2's development. To have fallen so far and learned nothing, that would be failure.

Chris has problems if he's offended by this.
