RPG Vault have posted an interview about a freshly-announced action RPG, The Roots by Tannenhauser Gate. That's right, more upstart Poles taking a crack at game design. Here's a brief overview of the game by Artur Jaskolski:

The Roots will introduce a player into a fantasy world shattered with a mighty conflict he will have to face. The story begins when a primeval evil starts to awake in the land of Lorath, and at the same moment, due to a series of unfortunate events, our hero is forced to leave his home village and seek help. On his journey, he meets characters who join his party to fight hordes of opponents emerging out of the dark.

The gameplay features both action and RPG elements. We wanted to avoid commonly known and repetitive schemes, and thus we sought for a few innovative solutions. One of them may be battle system. All kinds of encounters, battles or skirmishes in The Roots take place in specially designed arenas where a turn-based gameplay is merged with real-time. The battle system features a few tactical elements as well. Moreover, players will be able to compete during zeppelin races, or play Trion, which is a popular logical game in The Roots world. Apart from that, we are working on several features we hope to surprise and satisfy players with.

Well, at least nobody will be confused by the story, since it's been used about six hundred and seventeen times so far.

    Is this a translation issue?

Ground? Which is significantly different from Earth in what ways?

Mars has ground yet isn't Earth.

Actually, since the company's based in Poland, it's probably inaccurate translation. Phrases like "putting the world's fate to doubt" and "we sought for" aren't usually the creation of native English speakers.

Does it mean that it's the 2nd best selling MMORPG in Korea? Or is it just close to being finished? (I'm not sure if I understand the "it's currently in beta" phrase).

I'm already afraid of this... but heck, I'd LOVE this game to be good. It's sad that the games that had the most influence on the project were Japanese "RPG"s.

I like when poeple are frank :). But what market gap is he talking about? RPGs for XBOX?

"Ground Element" is certainly an inaccurate translation.
And I sense that the PC will presumably have 3 attributes :-(.

That probably means it's being beta-tested in Korea.

    So, real-time with pause, right?

There's a market gap for TB w/ pause fantasy RPGs? Shit, I really had no idea whatsoever.
