If I had a choice between being caught watching Sims 4 ads and weird fetishist porn at work, I'd go with fetishist porn, it'd be less awkward.

Wow. Somehow they still fucked it up more. Amazing, EA.

Jesus Tittyfucking Christ... I'd only heard about a few individual omissions that suggested there may at least be a functioning simulation game beneath all the EA-ness of the situation. But that's an unprecedented loss of content compared to the previous games. By this point any other publisher would just set it aside as shovelware and hype something else for the mass market. I guess nobody else is making a Sims competitor, though, so they know they'll get the sales no matter what...

Don't get me wrong the game'll be shit (for a while) but a lot of those features already weren't in sims 3 or were patched in much later. As someone who has been playing from right around the beginning, even when sims 2 was released there was backlash over lack of features, boring base game, etc and now it's considered by most the best sims game. Of course Sims 3 doesn't inspire much hope so for now it's a toss up.

I think one issue is that for all the issues with Sims 3, it still added open worlds as a paradigm changer. Worse still, early maketing for Sims 4 even claimed that those worlds were getting even larger. Not only are those going away but Sims 4 is discarding even more base features than Sims 3 did, without innovating in any big way of its own. What does it seem to have instead of open world are Emotions and those were already half covered via moods.

The removal of toddlers and (mostly) story progression imply a strange set of priorities if you consider that the stereotypical sims fan are older women who like to play with generations of families. After EA assured its audience that Sims 4 wouldn't have On Line DRM I was disappointed, but hopefully this might be a fun little debacle of its own.

Yeah, I'm mostly looking forward to playing with big tits and ass and weird 3D models and laughing at the internet drama. If I really want to play a game like The Sims, I'll install The Sims 2.

In regards to story progression, EA's was absolute garbage and I assume they're good with just leaving it to the modders who had already fixed it in Sims 3. The game was pretty much unplayable (given the crashing and locking up that would occur on any system) without the help of some of Twallan's mods. Plus they also allowed you to run around and get all the teenage girls in the neighborhood pregnant:thumbsup:

Now that I think about it, default EA story progression would often times murder toddlers instead of old farts when it decided there were too many sims living in the neighborhood so people shouldn't be too surprised about EA's recent design decisions

Seems like that 78 increased to 79. Jesus Christ.

EA's story progression was indeed garbage. I left my sims Sister alone for one ingame day as in moved to another lot, and the next thing that happened was that she got a job, and was Rank 6 in it, she had also gotten engaged too iirc. Another one moved out (read: self deleted) immediately after I moved him to another lot. Twallan's and JM Pescado's mods saved Sims 3 as far as I am concerned.

You know something is fundamentally wrong with the game, when far too many people find that the most entertaining thing to do in it is to impregnate all the females in town.

Judge the game when it's finished. Once all the expansions are out. Ignore it until then.

Actually, this works for every game ever.

Twallans mods were essential, but the open-world and story progression base were a good starting point by EA. It actually led to some advancement of the series. They fucked it up, it's EA, that's what they do; but at least it was ambitious.

Pescado's was shit though. Great content, annoying as fuck mandatory update period though.

Still when it comes to base game there was some improvement from one installment to another, this looks like even less than second one

Yes, but can there even be mods if the base game doesn't include story progression?
The issue is that there aren't many close seconds. Impregnating all women in town being the most entertaining thing is a feature.
I never played Sims 2. What was better about it?

The main plus to Sims 2 is that it has less annoying ass Social Media features. Also the performance rate is much, much better and I believe the pathfinding is superior (But that might have something to do with Sims 3 taking place in a much larger world in general.)

There weren't Rabbit Holes either like many community lots have.

Sims 2 was better. Think I mentioned it already but it also had 'genetics' where kids would inherit traits from the parents versus being totally random in Sims 3. All they do is pump up the graphics so they can re-milk the same idiots for the same DLC packs again.

Sims 2 was a lot better optimized, had a much better artstyle and visuals, the cheats were more entertaining, no rabbit holes, and the expansion packs did not flood you with dozens of unnecessary and underdeveloped skills. Why not have both Science and Alchemy under just logic? Why not have inventing and robot construction under handiness? and why the fuck is there a skill for smart phone usage, do you really need to read a manual for 10 hours to figure out how to change your smartphone's background? And it looks like Sims 4 is keeping the same tradition. Do we really need Gourmet Cooking AND Cooking as seperate skills?

I am pretty sure that Twallan's and Pescado's dont use EA's story progression at all. I even turned that shit off and it still worked.
Yes there was some form of guilty pleasure impregnating everything that had a vagina and was in the young adult/adult life stage, and if they were out of those bounderies, you threw potions at them until they were. Personally I dont mind this behaviour too much, but EA sure seemed to be bothered by it and did something in every expansion to try (and fail, being incompetent as they are) to stop it. The issue here is that a playstyle that EA clearly never intended to be a part of the game, ended up being the most entertaining lifestyle in the game... by far.
