The STEAM Sales and Releases Thread

We will never know. It's heart-wrenching.

Now that the Amazon deals are live, do you know what is on Steam? I have the feeling, the sale looks a bit Origin-biased.
Edit: I guess the 2K stuff is Steam.

Amalur is Origin, I guess. I don't mind activation, but don't want to have to run the client. The Crysis pack seems mixed mode?

 

I played the whole Amalur game without ever installing Origin

 

Pretty boring sale so far, true.
Not surprising though, there haven't been many interesting releases since the last sale(s) and the few that have been probably don't receive large discounts yet.
Everything else has been on sale a dozen times allready.

However, the whole thing has just begun, there's yet a chance that some interesting sales happen.

 

Yeah Amalur is Origin, might actually require the client but not 100% sure. Crysis is probably origin, too, or at least, definitely not a Steam key. Nothing EA from Amazon activates on Steam.

 

Regarding Amalur, I think I remember now that the base game is fine, but the DLC introduced the client through the backdoor. Oh well. I guess I have enough games at the moment.

 

Amazon has some crazy good deals right now, and alot of them register on steam.

I'd be sure to check them before buying anything on steam (steam's sales have sucked this past year, and this sale is no exception).

Anyhow, only thing I wanted so far (Beyond Divinity, 50% off) I missed because my credit card was fucked up.

It's cheap anyway (currently 4 dollars), but I'm a cheap bastard so I'll wait and see if it drops again.

 

Beyond Divinity is pretty mediocre compared to the first.

 

For some simple shooting purpose which is better: Fear 2 or Fear 3?

 

Fear 1.

Then you've played the best Fear game -- don't waste your money on the sequels.

Hm, and what about Dead Island? Is it MMO-ish and full of dull quests?

 

Dead Island is crap Potato-Zombie-Nonsense.

 

It's got good melee combat but otherwise it falls pretty flat on its face. The 'open world' isn't really that open inasmuch as it is populated by MMO quests, 'loot' is all random, and the zombies scale with your level. For $6 it isn't a terrible buy but you might get bored with it fast.

 

Its small FOV, low-res textures and extreme bloom will make you sick. The terrible writing, appalling characters and shit gameplay will depress you.

 

There's a mod called the 'extender' you can download that fixes a lot of the graphical issues mentioned by AR.

 

Thanks for responses. It looks that i'll wait for some more interesting promos or just grab few games on the last day, if the will not made into flash / daily sales.

 

Just bought XCOM Enemy Unknown in a flash sale, -33% off. It is cheaper buying the DVD right now but I can't be bothered to wait for it to be delivered, especially with Christmas imminent. Hoping Far Cry 3 might have a further discount... other than that, I think I'm done with the Steam holiday sale. I bought TR: Legend because GameTap doesn't offer it for free any more, and I mistakenly bought Prince of Persia because I thought it was the whole pack, not just the one game.

 

Love all the people buying x-com at 33% off like it wont show up as a daily deal for 50% later in the week

 

Also bought Spec Ops: The Line at 50% off. My bank account now looks like Dresden during the Second World War.

 

I really doubt it.
