New Supreme Commander 2 patch today. After Gaspowered Games fired a bunch of people and nearly went under and were bought by shady foreigners. The last (Documented) patch for supcom2 being released in December 9th 2010.

Managed to trade my Earth Defense Force key for Hard Reset so that's one less bundle I have to potentially buy if they ever put it in an Indie Gala or Humble.

Also bros, any dreadfully important information I should know before starting this? Any massively underpowered skills that should be avoided? Any horrific ways to gimp myself? Any easy ways to break the quests/game and ruin saves and break my heart?

In the beginning, learn lockpicking as fastest you can.

In the old camp, draw your sword in front of the castle gate, run through (this way you won't be stopped by the guards). Hide your weapon inside (or everyone will attack you). Turn left, to the smith. There should be two chests under the wall. In one, there's a rusty two-handed sword, that will rofl-stomp the 1st act easly and help a lot in the 2nd. I don't remember if it's in the locked chest or not, but get lockpicking either way, as it's a must have skill.

 

^ Don't read that. Just play the game blind and explore on your own. Lockpicking is a must, though (although that's true for almost every game of this genre). Do your first playthrough as melee and save mage for later so you can enjoy the combat. You could go ranged but it isn't necessarily a supported build later on in the game.

Don't use that pack, it mostly imports textures from the second game, that don't fit in the first and the final outcome looks like shit.

 

One thing I'll mention is that you basically need one-handed weapon training before you get two handed -- technically there's a way to meta game around it but the design intentionally funnels you through one-handers first. Don't be too afraid to spend LP as, unlike G2 NoTR, there isn't any curve/diminishing returns. You'll have plenty leftover towards the end unless you do something crazy like put excessive amounts of points in bows, crossbows, etc. As melee in G1 the only beneficial stat is strength (talking about the base stats of strength, dexterity, and mana). Obviously one handed and two handed skill is needed, too.

Also you should do an LP of this if you haven't already started one.

 

You can use any weapon without a training, but it will suck ass (just look at our hero wielding one-handed in both hands). But nevertheless

God no. Doing an LP of an RPG would be a large enough undertaking as it is, but a blind LP of an RPG I just haven't got the balls for. However I guess I might be able to do a "Journal" thread in the playground and just post pictures and updates on my adventures. I normally try to do LPs so people who haven't played the game know what the fuck is going on, this would probably only be amusing for people who have played Gothic to see me doing stupid shit. Maybe. Possibly.
