I considered that Fable thing since it was -85%, but the youtube gameplay videos I checked out made Amalur look like a masterpiece in comparison...

I guess that makes it a real RPG, then. :M

It's better than Amalur. At the very least there's some semblance of balance and thought put behind character progression.

Because you're smart. Also even though Fable is generic it's not 'annoyingly' generic like Amalur. You can at least read the derp storyline/quests in Fable. In Amalur I found myself clicking through the text as fast as possible given how dire and incomprehensible it was. Additionally the world of Fable isn't excessively huge for its own sake. Amalur is just an empty single player MMO with zones nearly as big as WoW.

The Codex Consensus is mixed. Personally I found both dull and the combat unsatisfying. Uninstalled the first after about ten hours and the second after about five. Combat is 'weak' like it is in Titan Quest with no impact or heft behind weapon attacks or spells. Torchlight 2 is the superior option unless you just can't stand the WoW-ish/stylized graphics.

They're Diablo games, you already know if you like that shit or not. It's the same shit.

P.S. I had a ton of trouble getting Sacred 2 to run last time I tried.

Most people will say the first one is worth it, but I find the second to have a really shit beginning. I've read posts of fans that like the huge gameworld, but I still haven't mustered enough courage to click the icon again.

That's really the one 'advantage' they have over Torchlight 2: they made a huge game world for both games. If it had better combat I'm sure I would enjoy it but the absolute deal breaker for any Diablo clone is having featherweight kinesthetics. Games that do have sufficiently 'meaty' combat other than TL2 would be Path of Exile and Derpablo 3.

I really like Sacred Gold. It's been on my laptop for the past 5 years and I play it every time I'm travelling. One of the better Diablo clones, imo.

Progression? I wouldn't be surprised, but this was less than appealing.

I'm not sure what's inherently less than appealing about that. Pretty much standard action combat for the vast majority of third person action rpgs.

Second one is not, but the first one is the best hack'n slash I've ever played - and the most beautiful one too. Only Icewind Dale series looked better. The world is large, but not too huge and the variety of it won't make you bored with surroundings. It's also worth exploring, as this game is from the times before everything was level-scaled. I got quite surprised when somewhere not that far from the beginning of the game I run past through some town I were to do some quest and strolled around on a desert suddenly encountering a dragon. It took about two seconds for a dwarf to burn and die. Hours of gameplay later I came back to the dragon to get my revenge. It took many save&loads, health potions and more running around than fighting, but I finally won and took some treasures with me to use on further dwarf adventures.

Also, don't listen to Metro - Fable is a terrible crap.

Sacred's angle is that it's open world, especially Sacred 2 which will drown you in quests without rigid act division like other clones and Diablo games themselves. They also have some neat classes and horses. HORSES, man. In any case, get the first game and try it out. Gold edition.

Well I liked the second one too but hey I like a lot of shitty games. I even played it huge amounts of time online.

I found Sacred to be pretty piss-poor and boring, but if you like mindless h&s I guess you could do worse. Personally I think PoE, D2, Torchlight and even D3 are more fun. They lack the open world though.

I rather liked the first Sacred back in the day, but like Grunker said - there are better Diablo clones out by now (such as Path of Exile).

Worst problem with Sacred games is endless hordes of constantly respawning enemies that will make a chore of travelling, imagine Morrowind with cliff racers that attack you on every step.

This. Holy yes this. I had to quit in the fourth town in Sacred Gold because you cant run two feet without running into HORDES of enemies that follow you till the end of earth and ROOT you while doing it, so you pretty much have to kill them. And worse, they respawn almost instantly back, while normally in these kinda games enemies respawn between sessions. Other similar games aren't really comparable to at least the first sacred, biggest goddamn chore playing the game ever.

Sacred 1 is good and charming. Avoid S2, it's boring IMO.

Also, why do I always buy games on steam when a few weeks later they get on sale

buy only when they're on sale, that's why sales were invented.

The thing about Fable is that it starts out like it's going to to be one of the 3D Legend of Zeldas with a cute character and such. Then it gets darker, with killing civilians, whorehouses, multiple wives and other horrors. On the surface, it looks like a lot of other games, but if one can make it out of the training area, it gets better.

First Sacred was one most enjoyable h&s ever for me (unlike diablo II witch bores me to death)
The second one was shit though... and i dont know really why because its seems to be bigger and better

First one has been in multiple bundles. You might someone with a key out there willing to give it away or sell it dirt cheap.
