It's not about whether they can get replaced or not.
You have a batman game, and the voice actor whom the fans loved and considered best for the role is still alive. So why not use him?
    Too expensive for the budget?
OK, did that free up more cash for the gameplay?
    Apparently not.

And I'm sure if I was working there and in charge of casting I would say "why should I be forced to use the same guy over and over again when I want to go in a different direction?"

I don't think they should be shackled to the same voice actors because fanboys cry about change on the internet, sorry. I agree Conroy does a good Batman and I loved the animated series as a kid the same as everyone else, but at the end of the day Batman has been played by like a hundred dudes and if a new guy is good at the role I don't really care that he's not someone else. Change is inevitable. Michael Keaton everyone complained about, then they saw the movie and went "oh, cool." Everything I have heard said the voice acting was good in this game, so who gives a shit?

It's different when one person is synonymous with a character, like Fox Mulder or Garrett from Thief, but Batman is not exclusive to Kevin Conroy.

Oh so the Codex is about doing what sells now, rather than what the creative types want. I see. :rpgcodex:

I don't see the logic nor upshot from that compromise.
Origins is still a bad game in the series. Taking out an accomplished voice from the characters = creativity? More like creative cost savings.

I liked Batman Arkham Origins more than Arkham City. But I seem to be alone about it. Mainly cause I found City a boring ass game, lots of derping around and filler content(Riddler bullshit) is meh. Origins atleast does have some good sidemissions. Asylum(first game) is still my favorite tho.

I'm not defending the game, I've never played it and the one before it was boring in my opinion. I'm saying developers being forced to use certain voice actors because they're popular is fucking dumb.

^ That. I don't think there have been any new EA games put on Steam for years. They want to push Origin.

If you don't mind arcadey space sims, then the point can be argued. But if you're going for a more simulationist direction? In that case, Freelancer is definitely a weak game. And that's putting it rather generously.

I remember playing Imperium Galactica when i was much much younger and thinking recently i'd go for another game like that.

Are the 1st and 2nd installments of Galactiv Civ that good or is there better shit of the genre out there?

If you haven't played the Master of Orion series, go for them instead. Opinions of GalCiv are very divided. Some think they're the best games since MoO, while others consider them soulless abominations. If you can find a demo before buying, then do that.

Conroy is back for the next game, it wasn't a "creative decision" to not have him in AO.

And also it's not about Conroy being Batman, it's about most VAs being talentless hacks. Which is why the better VAs (Ron Perlman, Peter Cullen, Steve Blum) are hired for dozens if not hundreds of roles.

While we are at it, why is Arcanum not on steam? And when does NWN2 come back to steam?

And why did gaben not give me another copy of gothic 2 to give away since I already had it when buying gothic1+3 :<

That's fine, but my entire point is that all I care about is the voice be a good one for the character. I am not a fanboy for specific people and irritates me when others are. All that should matter is that it's a quality performance that fits the character.

The latter is due to some legal brouhaha with Atari. The former, same thing with Sierra I guess?

If you like blowing buildings, driving cars at maximym speed while shooting your enemies, over the top action it really is a good choice. The game world is really big and there are tons of missions to do and vehicles to unlock.
Oh, and Bolo Santosi voice acting is worth it. So hurry Serdadu!

It's pretty much THE open world sandbox blow shit up game. So if that appeals to you, yes it's worth $3.
