That update was weird, they basically give the finger to their inhouse UI designer by subcontracting a fan to do his/her work, on the other hand, its good news that after god knows how many UI passes they finally stopped dicking around with the UI design and freed countless future man hours for other tasks.

 

I'm waiting for inXile to give me access to the localization project. This affront will not stand!

 

A 'tard named djnacho2001. Some of his "translations" are wrong. I'm reporting some of his mistranslations.

Bear in mind that when translating to spanish, you have two different schools: Spanish (from Spain) translation and Latin American (or Mexican, or neutral) translation. Both are somewhat different in some aspects, and if you use one of them, you invariably will piss some people from the other faction.

Edit: Some of his translations are correct.

I stand on the side of using 'neutral' translation. For example, 'vos' as as a form of 'you, plural' is only used in Spain and some areas of Central/South America. On the other hand, everyone understands/is familiar with 'ustedes'. Furthermore, when translating we have to take into account the 'feeling' and intent of the original text. Giving it a 'regional' flavor is not good imho.

One thing I'm noticing is that there are users who are translating things too literally. In those cases I won't report but try to provide a better translation. It's important people read the entire text after translating and assess the overall piece.

 

A nice effort, but I already recently redesigned our logo.

Our intent is definitely to lean towards as neutral as is available.

Noticing a few Codexers helping out with the translation efforts. Thanks guys, keep up the good work.

 

I joined as well for the FR version to help a bit in case I get bored and I have a bit of time. Let's say it was surreal to see an e-mail from Cosmic Misogynerd in my inbox pop out of the blue.

The conflict is similar to Spanish, in that there is Canadian vs France French. However I decided to just go with France French as it's what people are using and there will probably be 10 times as many French players as Canadian French ones. I think the differences are less than Spanish though. Mostly I must use a few colloquialisms and swear words that sound a bit ridiculous to me... and most of all remember to put a space before all exclamation points and question marks, as Canadian French is like English in that it doesn't insert one, while French in France does. Other than that I'll try to remain a bit neutral.

I think it's also a bit tricky since a lot of characters seem to have southern American accents or something and it's hard to have the same level of slang that feels as natural in another language.
