They shoulda done it in VHS and with better lip syncing, then it might have had a bit of style.

Good piece for a live action one (better than I expected). The tone, music and documentary scenes were superb; and there was less cheese in the acted portions than I expected. Won't be calling shit on this one.

Got a very strong "Vault City" vibe from the L.A sequence shown in the video, where the rangers visit "Rhodia".. even the music resembles fallouty... I like it :D

Looked like a shitty fanfilm to me. Still I'm more interested in the game itself then the intro.

Yeah. As I was in the shower, I was kicking myself for not going back to edit "trailer" to "intro". Anyway, trailer or intro, I still think live action scenes in, around, or about video games are dumb. I've got nothing against cosplay, but there's a time and a place, you know?

I do too, for what it is. Something can be dumb and still be done well.

My only real criticism is that Vargas' voiceover is great for the narration part, but sounds exactly the same for the live action part, which is bad. Delivering oratory to a small crowd on a windy day should not sound the same as speaking quietly into a microphone in a soundproof studio.

Fair enough. It's OK with me if some people think FMV or whatever in games is cool. I think it's dumb, but you're welcome to like it.

I went on record a year ago saying that I thought an in-engine intro/trailer/unicorn would be better. I stand by it, though I admit that it would probably have been more expensive.

Oh yeah, I agree that narrated stills would have been a little flat.

For the purposes of Wasteland 2 discussion,
    Fuck Fallout.

The intro is unique, good looking and good sounding. It does what it is supposed to do. I much prefer it to some pre-rendered 3D, which would also cost ten times as much to make.

I love the opening quote. Like the idea of some postapoc dude pretending he the author of a famous quote he found in some old, falling apart book. The next steps is postapoc writer who found few rare copies of good novels and rewrites them on a fresh paper, convincing people he is the author.

I picked the game up for the first time since the beta started today. Just finished with the Ag Center...but destroyed Highpool isn't popping up on the world map. I'm guessing that isn't intentional?

    Show Spoiler

The fun is starting to genuinely come through for me. The screenshot-portraits are a nice addition, in the absence of more hand-drawn ones that actually resemble the characters. My band of nameless wanderers - hard-ass The Bitch, shotgun-toting, poncho-wearing The Doc, callow sharpshooter The Orphan, and, braindead pipe-wielding The Gimp - feels more and more like a proper, distinct adventuring party. Angela Deth has some nice new barks to help establish her character. And I just saw the gib effect that involved a raider's arm blowing off and landing on the ground several feet away. Good stuff.

I think the entire opening sequence is going to feel unengaging no matter what they do now, unfortunately. There isn't much of a compelling story hook at the start (investigating the death of a character who we never meet is always going to be tricky), and because we're locked out of the Citadel, it's hard to feel invested in the Rangers themselves - the faction being introduced as a patch of mostly empty desert and some jerks who try and get you attacked by a goat. It just feels...threadbare.

Didn't Jason Anderson write the plot while he was still at InXile? I wonder how much of his original story still remains..

There's a bug with locations not popping up in this build, we're working on a fix. Reportedly restarting the game usually fixes it, though if it doesn't in your case buzz me and I'll just get you the location code for Highpool, you should be able to edit that into a save file to just teleport your party to there.

Knights of the Old Republic had 600,000 words. This won't be particularly wordy, thankfully.

I really liked that intro. :salute: It did a great job of summoning the setting you the player are about to play in. And it was refreshing to see something in FMV. Just like the good old days. :D

    Ace died though...... Seriously? :(

When I heard about how they were doing it and where, I was ready for some cringe worthy stuff. It wasn't anything amazing but I didn't cringe or anything, which makes it better than I expected. Seems like it'll work pretty well as an intro. Introduced the background and setting etc, also the characters in the scene are pretty recognizable to their in game portraits. 7/10 would watch again. Although the Red Skorpions, mostly the dead ones look a hell of a lot like Caesar's Legion, did they just grab legion cosplayers for those roles?..

Also I read that comment about being able to fight rangers in random encounters and I think that's pretty awesome. Fighting rangers at the citadel was pretty damn fun when I tried it, actually.(Nothing else is quite as challenging so far.)

The voice acting and writing is a bit cheese and OTT. Not so bad that it made me hate it overall. Good job, sets things up nicely.
