That was done on purpose, I think. They made the representative of the sympathetic freedom fighters an asshole, and they made the representative of the oppressive religious order a nice dude precisely so that normies find it more difficult to choose between them.

Witcher 1 is best played from isometric perspective. Game looks better, combat becomes more tactical and enjoyable, and the game controls great as an isometric RPG. Over the shoulder is ok to take some screenshots but the game isnt built around that perspective and it shows.

The Witcher 1 combat got better as the series progressed unto even worse mechanics.

Witcher 1 is one of those games where I feel the atmosphere almost makes the game. And the music is a huge part of it.

I'd like to add that the game is still visually stunning. On the aurora engine.

I feel like it is more though. It's visual, sound, gameplay and story all blending together beautifully.

Yeah, it does look great despite it's age. Only issue I have with the graphics at all is with the small number of unique NPC models, but everything else looks great. I didn't realize in-game anisotropic filtering doesn't work at first either, so I got a pretty massive visual upgrade 10 or so hours in by forcing it in the nVidia control panel. One crazy thing though... the trade quarter still runs like shit, even on a 2070.

The Visima Confidential quest (the investigation into the individuals connected with Salamandra in chapter 2) is surely one of the most intricate works in quest scripting in any RPG in history, probably even beating Beyond the Beef in F:NV. A massive non-linear search for clues which leaves the actual deductions to the player and allows them to make blunders. Admittedly the quest can be a bit tough to follow at times, with sometimes Geralt coming to conclusions in dialogue that didn't seem obvious beforehand but still I think it's an achievement not surpassed since.

I hope Cyberpunk will at least try to follow this legacy (not likely, since W1 lead narrative designer Artur Ganszyniec who I suspect did most of this work is no longer with the company).

Vizima Confidential is one of my favorite cRPG quests of all time and a reason I replayed Witcher 1 more than once.

I remember when Witcher 3 came out people did some direct screenshot comparisons of the church in Witcher 1 to Witcher 3 interiors, and some aspects of 1 looked better. Was pretty weird.

I'm in chapter 4 now. I think this game is pretty underrated at this point. The combat sucks ass IMO, but literally everything else is much more enjoyable than I remembered and how people refer to it. A lot of the quests are well done, the dialog is pretty great despite the rough translation at times, and the mood/graphics hold up extremely well. I don't like the swamp being used as the "outside the city" area in both chapters 2 and 3, but I assume that was budget related. Anyway... I remembered it being pretty mediocre, but it's much more enjoyable than that.

So, I'm considering giving Twitcher 1 a try again, I tried it back when it came out and I remember hating it, but I might have changed and I'm curious. I know I despise 2 and 3, so I won't be bothering with those, but I digress. What are some must-have mods for this? Also, is it possible to not sleep with or romance anyone? I like to be as spiteful as possible and my Geralt in this roleplaying game (rofl) is gay.

I don't know about mods, but you can turn down every sexual encounter I'm pretty sure. Only ones I'm really doing are the Triss/Shani ones, and even those require you to say the right thing or give them a gift.

And since it wasn't, you are forced to sleep with people in this alleged roleplaying game with player choices? ;d And like I said, I'm doing it just to be contrarian, Geralt is always represented as a chick magnet, although he has the personality of a glass of boiled water and looks like Steve Buscemi (in W1), so I'm making him gay out of spite.

No, you're not forced to sleep with chicks. Be as gay as you want, champ.

There are no mods whatsoever that add male prostitutes to any of the Witcher games. This is surprising. Perhaps the Witchman lore is so powerful that even the Nexus poiverts dare not taint it.

There are no men in existence who would want to sleep with Geralt.

The Witcher Full Combat Rebalance Mod is pretty good. It makes alchemy, proper sign
and combat style use mandatory. That really rampes up the atmosphere and the "Witcher"
feeling. You need to use the proper oils when fighting monsters and should drink the proper
potions or you stand no chance. I used it on a second play-through and it was great but its
hard to say if it is a must have for the first time.

Another mod to look at is the Flash mod, it does similar things and i think it is
a somewhat predecessor. It was even part of some later official Witcher 1 releases.
I didn't use it but it was quite popular.
