I also hope someone mods out the self refiling potion stupidity. The potions should be reliable on alcohol quality like it was in the first one and not refil automatically with whatever alcohol you have.

I am okay with that, actually. It is a compromise, but I am all for a compromise that will overall encourage potions use, because that makes gameplay more interesting

Not to mention I am a horrible hoarder and bad at judging when to use my consumables, so incentives to do just that are very welcome.

The fact that game is hitting your sweet spot and addressing you personal gaming flaws doesn't mean it's a good and sensible system. It takes away a layer of crafting/brewing and doesn't make any sense.

How is that going to "encourage potion use" ? Shouldn't the gameplay itself encourage potion use instead?

This just makes potions into non consumables because they are inexhaustible and the only thing it encourages is being juiced up for 100% of the game without any cost to it at all. And i partially discourages exploration to find the ingredients.
While it diminishes Alchemy skill, if thats a skill now at all.

Nothing else then a mass market feature for dumb lazy players.
Which isnt any kind of surprise, obviously since the game is made for that specifically.

Yes, it does not Make Sense (TM)* - that is why I wrote it is a compromise. From gameplay perspective, it is an improvement (in theory - we will see how it actually works when the game is released).

*It still makes more sense than most such abstractions

Oh, yeah. I forgot. It's an improvment because Geralt is a master alchemist :P

It's an improvment only for those who don't want to brew potions, but play Skyrim: Northern Kingdoms edition.

The potion making system in TW1 was good, like legit good. I personally didn't even mind the herbs gathering thing, because it was worth it, potions made an actual difference. The system has been watered the fuck down in TW3 from the looks of it.

You could make the argument that brewing potions could get tedious (especially the herbs gathering part) after x hours, but even then I wouldn't really be convinced.

The only problem with W1 implementation was that there was too many ingredients and they kept respawning every time you would enter and exit any house or a village hovel.

Thus you would run around collecting the same ingredients over and over, repeating it hundreds of times - which is what made it tedious.

This new measure is a wrong solution applied to a wrong problem.
And obviously made for the casuals who just want to play the gaaaaaem. Without actually playing it.

TBH, the lowest point of the alchemy system's decline seems to have been TW2. TW3 sounds a lot more promising, but indeed inferior to TW1.

    New video showcasing a quest:

Music gave me strong Witcher 1 vibes -- felt heavily inspired by the music that plays in the wilderness sections of the initial chapters. Other than that I'm hoping that the quest design is not so railroaded as to force one to chase down that npc in the end.

Actually, I agree with you. I don't like at all the auto refill system. Even if it will be balanced by an harder looting for ingredients.

Seems like it's more of a way to introduce you to that camp. The quest itself is not very interesting (recover object that is a few hundred meters away, fight a couple enemies and go back to questgiver)

If you agree then why the faceplam gif? fanboi butthurt ?

How is it going to be balanced when once you find an ingredient you will never have to look for it again?

MMO-like level capped quests? You want to tell me there will be a big ass number next to the quest giver(just like at enemies health bars) or in the journal, informing you that you are not able/are able to do the quest? "We are doing this Gothic way" my ass.

How much will the loot be randomized actually? Are there any hand-placed powerful stuff?

    Exactly. [IMG]

The first two wasn't made for a popamole audience. You can see that in how the quest was designed. Vizima Confidential in Act II of the first game has nothing less than any quest in Fallout 1/2.
Now...It's understandable that a AAA game should reach a larger audience...but this doesn't mean a dumbed down quest design or C&C system.

I don't really know, this is why I agree with you. It seems to me just a simplification.
I can only assume that...yes, you have to find those ingredients once, but those are harder to find. This gave a more focus on the use of alchemy in combat insted that farming the ingredients you need.

I was talking only about W3...
I like the first Witcher very much, relatively speaking, even despite all its minor flaws.

W2 went in the opposite direction, instead of improving the originals base and i dont see anything in w3 that is different.

Nope, they literally said that only a few special super epic ingredients for super epic potions will be "difficult to find" and we all know that means nothing and you will find them when they are pushed into your face during some quest.

And we do have the item and quest compass integrated into the game as one of the big features - that is working like an awesome button. The Witcher "sense" that highlights everything around you.

Funny he should say that because the game literally is hand-holding you throughout that quest, through Gernald telling himself he should investigate more. Speaking out loud all the fucking time, telling you what to do and where to go.

Sounds like Geralt is becoming Gerold, if you'd pardon the horrendous pun.
