You're taking this sentence out of context. He is addressing the rich story as a characteristic of Witcher games, when he says that. I believe he means, they won't use sandbox mechanics, like random fetch quest, but will instead hand craft all they can.

Yeah, I wasn't talking about the Retarded Fiend Quest, but the quest mechnic in general. This sounds good.

That's not what I mean by sandbox. In a sandbox game content is explored through mechanics rather than in scripted paths. A sandbox does not mean no C&C, although realistically speaking it does mean less robustness in story than in a heavily scripted game.

Which is nice, but my hope was these consequences emerge out of your actions more than you choosing strands in a complex handcrafted web.

The keyword is "more", as I've emphasised it. CDPR say they're aiming for a mix, and I'm hoping they swerve more towards one way rather than the other.

Also, Skyrim is not what I want. If it was I'd have played it already.

Why are you under the illusion that sandbox = modern Bethesda game? That's not what a sandbox is, nor what I mean by it. A sandbox does not preclude C&C, nor does it prevent a good story (though it'd be less robust as I've mentioned before, but that's a good enough trade-off for me).

Please do reread my posts because you demonstrate that you haven't understood the least of what I wrote.

And the marketing talk is "idiotic" and not to be taken seriously only as far as it isn't supported by details (e.g. "first time ever", "crowning achievement"). CDPR have put forth in some detail how they plan to combine open world and story-driven. How the developers say the game will be should be taken into account when talking about how the game might be. It's common sense.

No context? I don't know. I guess my post was a bit pontless:M

How exactly would you suggest they should achieve that? There would need to be a system analysing all your actions and calculating effects they have on all variable elements of the created world. It should be possible on a basic level, but if you want to ahieve complex, detailed story, I don't think there is reasonably affordable technology to suport such a system. The C&C webs will have to be handcrafted.

Im not. Th Skyrim example was not from me. I just think that in a Sandbox you play a character which is a extension of the player. It cant be a sandbox, where you can do as you want most of the time, if you ahve the restrctions which comes with playing a already established character.

Gothic 3's design was actually quite good in this regards, even if its content was severely lacking. Gothic 3 is a good comparison because it's also XP-based and heavy on questing.

That's not true. You don't do anything you want in a sandbox, you can and should be able to do what's permitted by mechanics governed by system rules, and a good sandbox game actually requires a robust character system and set of rules because they determine what content is experienced by the resourceful player. As opposed to experiencing content by choosing between one of pre-designed sequences of actions.

Edit: I should note, though I thought it obvious, that I'm talking about sandbox RPGs here.

They are Gothic series fans. Gothic 3 also got multi region open world(frozen land, desert, green forest). If it's just 3 separate areas I would felt cheated after all they said

I'm 99% sure "multi-region" means different geographical styles and cities, just like Skyrim. They have gone on and on about aping Skyrim I can't imagine them dividing the landmass behind load times and progress.

Dragon Age 3 on the other hand has been said to be different, larger areas, despite them also citing Skyrim as their chosen direction.

    In short: Skyrim, Skyrim, Skyrim.

My guess is that it'll be "sandbox" and "open world" in the same way GTA San Andreas was, in both gameplay and world design.

By gameplay, I mean there's a main story, but you're pretty much free to fuck off on other stuff, i.e. monster hunting, side quests, etc. By world design, I mean some areas are locked at first, but as you progress, you can access them until the whole game world is open and free to travel.

This is, of course, a WAG. Fuck if I know...

I just hope they don't make us PC players suffer because consoles charge for their updates. All-around fair treatment of customers regardless of platform might not be the best thing in this case.

Wonder if they will do an actual expansion/large DLC this time, since the structure of the game will likely better support it.

When TW1 and TW2 were released I told myself I will not D1P them, then gave into the hype and did it anyway.

But CDP guys are such bros, that I've never regretted giving them full price for their games.
