Of course you can. It would take some actual effort instead of just being a glorified console port.

It's better than Witcher 1 and 2 by any metric and their cargo cult minds are incapable of handling anything with complexity judging by those two titles.

I suspect your metrics are polish and streamlining. Also, I think you misunderstood Sawyer's use of the term cargo cult if you're applying it to CDPR.

It's also enjoyability. W1+2 combat is not enjoyable by practically anyone but the most potato potatoes.
I don't believe Sawyer's ever used "cargo cult" to describe other developers, but regardless nooooooooooope http://www.rpgcodex.net/forums/inde...they-almost-went-bankrupt.87645/#post-2947702

Don't be ridiculous, plenty of reviews praised the combat in both games. From the Gametrailers review of TW2:

"Combat in The Witcher 2 is all about control and preparation. The high-stakes combat could be compared to Dark Souls in that a moment of recklessness could summarily lead to your slaughter. You’ll be dealing with some truly treacherous foes, and certain lessons might be learned the hard way. Mastering the rhythm of your abilities and timing your attacks is essential, and a tutorial added since the original PC release lets you dip your toes in for a smoother start."

Those quotes are about the finances of running a game development studio and have nothing to do with design, so they're not really relevant here.

As I said, the most potato of potatoes.

Huh, I thought potatoes had eyes.

Anyway I watched the new video and it looks like the sacrifice they had to make to create an open world on their engine was a narrow-corridor city. Still better level design and graphics than Wasteland 2.

They've also stepped up their game when it comes to dialogue animations. The future, according to CDP and Bioware, is cinematic open worlds.

Uh, gametrailers is a pretty standard mainstream game site.

Still irrelevant as this was talking about their first game, not their third after two successful and well received installments.

    Yeah, I could tell.

Where are the game designers who know what they're doing? I don't see anything that would indicate their presence.

I hate to go on record agreeing with Roguey twice in two pages or so, but TW1 was just good enough to not ruin the rest of what the game had to offer. TW2 combat is just atrocioius.

Witcher 1 combat is literally just pressing left click in rhythm.

Witcher 2 at least you have have to use more than a single brain cell to play.

Well, W1 would have to make you do something for it to be bad.

It's just there and it takes time.

Most of TW1 was trivial once I got the AoE Igni upgrade. Agree with TW2, but once you figure out what it is they're doing it's painful. The thing that really frustrated me is that each next encounter is worse than the last. QTE, hp sponge ghosts, enemies who block when they look like they're doing something else, etc. It's like the worst developer "difficulty" tactics from console games in the 90s.

Hey you have to switch the sword and style. Use alchemy items. And stuff. It's not that involving but it isn't just autopilot either.

Witcher 2 engine ruined the combat. It's too clunky.
