Decline there's no good open-ish world ARPG this year

turn based combatfags, underrail expeditions got me covered. it was wonderful
storyfag is held by Disco Elysium

i thought outer worlds would scratch that itch, but it was just ok. not really 'woah' but doesn't scratch that gothic even new vegas itch. outward came close to gothic experience, especially in early level, but the content was sparse and the world feels dead.

i need elex 2

greedfall for some d'Artagnan action
Haven't played it. How does it fare in the C&C department?
it was okay. not groundbreaking, but alot of early quest affect reputation that affect late game quests and main quests. the church storyline is great imo. otherwise, it is ok.

my main gripe with the C&C is how easy and obvious the "best" way is.

Will get it during a Steam sale. At the very least, the setting seems appealing.

Play Enderal or even Nehrim. Both are excellent open-world RPGs in the vein of Gothic, sort of like Gothic meets Elder Scrolls.

2019 rpgoty poll:

Underrail expedition - it's just a DLC, you can't vote DLC for GOTY;
Greedfall - another game from Spiders, which is a diagnosis in itself;
Stygian - unfinished mess;
Disco elysium - adventure game glorified visual novel with skillchecks, not an RPG;
The outer worlds - generic, safe and toothless FNV clone.

hf paying 40 euro for skyrim to run it though.

That's insane.

I doubt any rpg released this year will be remembered. The exception might be disco elysium, but if so it will be for the creative writing or because they'll use the character system as a basis for a 'real' rpg at some point, certainly not for its merits as an rpg.

If only there was a way to acquire games without having to exchange money for them

He is right though, 2019 is barren. The only interesting release was No Truce with the Furies, and before that Kenshi (2018) and Grimoire (2017). Basically if we're lucky we'll get one decent release per year, next year it might be Realms Beyond.

This year has mostly been absolute shit. Disco Elysium being the only exception.

Greedfall was beyond bleh, Outer Worlds is also mostly boring. For the open world fix, RDR2 coming out next Tuesday on PC, and then in April, Cyberpunk and Elden Ring. BotW2 might also be not too far away. No idea about ELEX2 and KCD2 and their schedules. Same for Realms Beyond.

If we're being strict about the release dates, honestly the GOTY might go to Outward. I think a lot of people forgot about it at this point.
