Dunno, in Hitman after assassinating the target and then casually walking out the front door with the guards raising zero suspicion about me because of a proper disguise is pretty awesome for me.

Gods, I hope this game will be a failure of epic proportions.

That moment alone defined Hitman for me!
Making the perfect hit, exiting the premises... music starts to get more intense... feelin' the blood rushing as I worry will any of the guards raise any suspicions... trying to walk yet hurry a bit. Amazing!

Only other game that gives me such an adrenaline rush is Thief itself in its emergent gameplay moments on which I could waste pages describing.

Explosions? Ninja dodges? Jumping out of windows?

!!TRUE!! Garret would need naught but a chronometer. :(

And am I the only one who does feel the dialogue is kind of taking a big dump on Thief fans? Like, yeah: You think being a master Thief player is to time the patrol routes of all guards so you do get in, grab the shinies, and get out with no knockouts, no kills, no alerts, and not a single mistake? Jeez, lo-ser! It is all about being cool and going KABOOM and CRASH and press triangle to dodge and jumping out of windows... With a pwetty necklace. 'cause, ya know, Garret did bleeping ghost-steal a God but he can't steal a bleeping necklace without KABOOM and CRASH and, uhm, sound of swords being unsheated.

    Poor Garret-Chan. :(

Oh, it will. Don't you worry. EM lost many of their fans last night because of their retarded practices and the rest of the potential buyers think this game is nothing more than a ripoff of Dishonored.

To be honest, "No-Knockouts" was not the way the originals were meant to be played. Even on expert. Ghosting is something invented by the fans because the game permited that.

And there was a level on thief 2 that did not permit knocking out. But that wasn't a rule.

Anyway... will this game have saveslots or checkpoints? Bet on checkpoints.

The massive amount of downvotes that any negative comment is getting seemed relatively suspicious, and in line with the "damage control" they are executing elsewhere.

    @ Darth Slaughter:

I did say 'master Thief player.' Sure, the commoners and plebs and non-monocled-beings do blackjack dudes because they are popamolers and it does actually require skill to visualize a complex 3D enviroment and keep track of where every guard should be at a given time. Few non-awesome people would be able to finish the game if that was a requirement. :obviously:

But I do believe it was 'intended' simply because it is possible. Mechanics such as 'pickpocketing' do serve no purpose outside of a true ghostie playthrough.

And let us be honest here: The game does make no sense if you do go around blackjacking the guards. It does totally break you immersion when you do somehow need to convince yourself it is not the worst A.I ever when the guards do not notice there are fewer dudes in the room every time they do blink. 'And then I told her...' *blink* '... Hey, where did George go?' 'I do not know. The bathroom, maybe?' 'Ah, sure thing. Where was...' *blink* '... I? Phil? Phil, where are you? Oh, surely he went to look for Geor- OUCH!'

I do believe quite a lot of people did get into Ghosting simply because the game's atmosphere does become that of a bad comedy movie about dumb thieves and retarded guards if you do not. :?

Edit: And Garret was a total troll. He's the kind of guy who does enter the most secure place in the universe, steal all the shinies without raising the slightest suspicion, and does leave 'Garret was here' cards where each shiny was. Megahawt.

Well yeah, one of the great strengths of Thief was that it allowed for ghosting without forcing to player to use cheese tactics and cheap exploits. I could imagine it was a conscious decision by LG, although unfortunately they didn't include an 'official' must-ghost difficulty level. It's my only real complaint about the first two games, I wonder if it could be modded in.

Agassi : All in moderation. If you go around and blackjack every guard in a level, what you say is correct. If you use your blackjack sparingly to knock out a few key guard it doesn't spoil the atmosphere imho.

About "it's intended simply because it's possible", well, that may be true for the original thief games.

But then again, Eidos guys are saying it will be possible to "ghost" in this new thief too, and it was even possible in dishonored. though it was not that satisfying to ghost in dishonored, since the better ideas are in magic powers that are lethal. I only played once in non-lethal ghosting mode, so i can't say how much better is lethal playthrough.

And i have no problem ghosting a level, and in fact in some fan missions it is mandatory, but I get a lot of satisfaction when blackjacking some of the AI and hiding bodies.

This kind of mechanic is what added to the atmosphere of hitman blood money, the best of hitman series, but when you played a level killing your target by means of accident, it is kind of frustrating to be a silent assassin but not being credited for it.

As attached as we are to the setting and original trilogy, remember that quality gameplay is what matters.

that music sounds really hollywood and generic, if they are not working with BROsius (he's doing other stuff i think) they should at least respect that style. But well it's a trailer, what matters is the ambiance during gameplay

I'm afraid if this will have parkour stuff like assassin's creed (especially since it seems a lot of the people working on this worked on assassin's creed) .

by the way i haven't played Assassin's creed, do those games actually have stealth?

Not in the Thief style what-so-ever. It's "social stealth," you have to blend into a crowd to be sneaky. It's completely pointless though because the combat is so easy and most missions make you break cover eventually anyway.

They do, but usually it's easier just to stab everyone.
