I watched retards drool over how awesome Bioshock was, and endured. I saw them heap praise upon praise on Fallout 3, and endured. But if it happens to Thief next, and I see those dumbfuck consoletards extoll the virtues of the new Thief's "modern, next-gen" design, while calling the older games antiquated and boring, I might start gazing too long into the Awor...

I didn't mind Fallout 3 that much cause I'm not that big a Fallout fan anyway.

    But Thief...

Bilgefar, Return to the Cathedral would've been a great level if it didn't force you to kill all the Haunts. That was extremely stupid. In fact, the game would've been much better with completely unkillable Haunts.

I don't understand why they have to use Garret as the player character, when their version obviously is quite different from the original one. Will they get the same guy (Brosius?) for voice acting, for example?
It seems to me it would be much better to introduce a new master thief, with a different background. Maybe set it some time after the original Thief games and the new master thief is some cocky upstart who think Garret was overrated.

This can't be a coincidence. This is a conspiracy, a concentrated effort to rape all that the codex holds dear.

    edit

Brosius made the music, his wife did VA for Victoria.
Which reminds me, don't you even dream of anything that comes close to this

I played Arcanum years before I played Fallout (in fact I only played Fallout after joining the 'dex).
Having played the superior game before of course lessened the impact Fallout could have on me. :M

So they've turned the Keepers into thieves, and Garrett from an anti-hero into a hero. Bodes well for the game.

Eric Brosius did Thief's music. Garrett's voice actor is Stephen Russell.

To be fair, that might be a mistake in the article.

The first part is kinda true, I remember an interview with Randy Smith where he said the Cradle was basically trying to make the most terrifying level possible. I loved it, but I can see how some people would think it's not really Thiefy.

The bolded part though is an argument I've never understood. I always played through the undead levels as stealthily, if not more, than the other levels. The undead can fuck you up much quicker than normal guards, and they may have the absolute best sound in the game (which is no small feat since the sound in that game is so fantastic). But anyways, I'm sure the undead vs. not-undead arguments about Thief have been repeated a million times before. And honestly, after reading through the article Bruticis, I don't even care anymore. Every single thing written in the second half of that article sounds so fucking awful that not having any undead is going to be extremely far down on my list of complaints about the game.

Agreed. Well, I thought the level was great despite that, but it's certainly the worst part of the level. Especially since I try to never use any weapons when I play Thief, so that part is always very annoying. If it wasn't for that part, I would say Return to the Cathedral is hands down the best level in the series, but even with it, I think it's in the conversation.

Fallout, Hitman, Syndicate, Thief... all flushed down the toilet by shitty reboots. Maybe it's time to stop looking forward to or hoping anything from the new shit that blows the nostalgia horn.

I didn't meant to say that the undead levels aren't thiefy. In fact, the Bonehoard is one of my favourite levels. It's just the the Cradle, in particular, seems to me to have the focus more on the horror rather than on the looting. I've seen a playthrough of it on youtube (it's not terrifying when you watch someone else play it in a small window in your browser :P ) and it just didn't seem that thiefy to me, while Thief 1's undead levels did.

But yeah, it doesn't really matter if Thi4f has undead or not, when they can't even get the basics right. It isn't going to reach the excellence of TDP or TMA. Judging form this article, it's not even going to be a proper Thief game.

Popamole players need to feel the most empowered possible... next WH40K game will probably let you play as your favorite Primarch, and have a God-Emperor DLC...

Looks awesome. I trust Eidos Montreal right now more than damn near any other studio, after Human Revolution. Bring this the fuck on.

:bro: My bad for misunderstanding you. The Bonehoard is indeed an awesome level. And there are definite problems with the Cradle, I would agree. In fact, through most of it there aren't even any enemies. It is awesome that they could make it that scary without enemies, but the scariness then doesn't transfer over to another playthrough. I loved the Cradle the first time I played it, but I think I've only replayed it once, and it wasn't nearly as good.

    Reported.

I would be able to excuse almost anything except the fucking Focus system and the fact that they seem to be designing the game so that using the focus system isn't optional.

Oh, and the grappling hook. Seriously, wtf? I remember moments in Thief when I was hiding in a corner with a guard literally inches from me, hoping like fuck he doesn't come any closer. Now you can just pop out your grappling hook and grapple away to safety.

    Fuck that.

Haha I didn't actually report you. I just have no idea how anyone can read a developer saying that in the original Thiefs "if a guard saw you, you might as well press the reset button" and still be optimistic.
