In fact they're amongst <a href="http://au.games.ign.com/top-100-game-creators/index.html">The Top 100 Game Creators of All Time</a> according to this scientifically evaluated and extensively researched list:
<blockquote><a href="http://au.games.ign.com/top-100-game-creators/70.html">Todd Howard</a>: "I wish I could give you real, true insight into what we put into our games, and this is not me just trying to sell you, or smooth you over, because I’m Okay, really, if you don’t love what we do," said Howard in a post on Bethesda's forums. "We’re fans; we’re passionate about what we do. We go on a crusade to make the best game we can. We make the game we would run to the store and buy, we argue, we debate, we scream, we stay up all night, we clap and cheer the highs and curse the lows. One day we’ll find a way to make you a fly on the wall in one of our design meetings – they’re pretty damn inspiring."</blockquote>
    Also in the list are <a href="http://au.games.ign.com/top-100-game-creators/85.html">Tim Cain</a>, <a href="http://au.games.ign.com/top-100-game-creators/30.html">Brian Fargo</a>, <a href="http://au.games.ign.com/top-100-game-creators/37.html">Ken Levine</a>, <a href="http://au.games.ign.com/top-100-game-creators/41.html">Bill Roper</a> and <a href="http://au.games.ign.com/top-100-game-creators/80.html">Chris Avellone</a> with the <a href="http://au.games.ign.com/top-100-game-creators/28.html">BioWare Founders</a> among many others.

    Thanks <b>Luzur</b>!

If those meetings were in fact inspiring, they create a harrowing contrast to the end product.

Bill Roper deserves to be stripped out of that list just because he was CEO of the now-defunct Flagship Studios, makers of the incredibly shitty Hellgate: London. Few business failures are so epic that they give rise to a new vocabulary term to describe it.

Too bad it all turns into shit in the end. If you're a halfwit you can puff and huff, but you won't accomplish anything.

I remember the first time I launched FO3 - I was cruisin' through Vault 101 with my jaw steadily going lower and lower until I reached the surface. Then my brain short-circuited and I exited to desktop, never to come back.

It's not only that I don't like what they do, it's that I don't like them... at all; not a single iota. At least developers like John Carmack earned the right to be arrogant asses.

I respect devs who have EARNED the right to be arrogant asses, but remain otherwise. Apparently Tim Cain is a really humble guy, Will Wright is cool, and Miyamoto is the soul of niceness. Those who are rad should be called out for such, and praised as diligently as we vilify douchery.

...you know, while we're at it, let's vilify douchery more. That's always fun!
