I have yet to complete the game with Temple+ ( due to time constraints ) so kindly excuse if any ( or all ) following list of suggestions have already been implemented or in the process of being considered by the team.

1. If there's one thing I've always hated about the vanilla ToEE is the lack of challenging encounters or higher difficulty spikes overall which makes the game boring quite fast for me, despite Co8 modpack installed. After reading through the changelog for Temple+, I fear that the game might become even more easy with a lot of interesting changes and features introduced.

Basically, Is the team considering to raise the difficulty of all the encounters throughout the game with some major overhaul via intelligent AI, more randomizations in the variety of monsters ( no two encounters play out in the same way each time ), the monster levels, number of enemies encountered, rebalancing the game with changed list of XP needed for each level up in order to make it even more challenging, adding randomized spawn points on the map for the items available in the game world, different enemies spawning at random on various areas on the map, etcetra...adding much more surprises and unpredictability than linear, predictable structure of the campign???

I'm asking this now because Temple+ has incredible potential to turn the game into an excellent one given major considerations for the possibilities to introduce a lot of things that were not possible before.
So, please consider the given suggestion.

thread TOEE is becoming too easy.
AI improvements are definitely something that's dear to me, and I've already made some, like ignoring weak summons, waking each other up from sleep. also indirectly the Pathfinding improvement increase the chances of AIs actually engaging you (e.g. the Moathouse frogs who come all at once now rather than one by one).

Future releases will feature a difficulty setting that may contain several options. One of those will be a slower levelling curve as you suggested, such that you'll reach level 3 quickly but progress more slowly from then on. Also the AI will be taught to use the new combat options such as Disarm which may throw a serious wrench in some of the common OP builds!

I don't think we'll add new mobs to the ToEE module though, I think that's better suited to new ones. I really want to do the IWD2 conversion actually, but that's a huge time investment... maybe a year from now.

Outside of combat improvements and experience curve, I think tuning the economy to one of scarcity would greatly enhance the game (i.e. piss people off :P). A few ideas (some discussed previously)...

1. Get rid of the early Extraplanar Chest. It's a 5th level spell (CL9) and has no business anywhere near a low level party. Actually, it's an unrestricted, bastardized version of said spell, no? I understand why it's there(in Co8), but unlimited carrying capacity starting at 2nd or 3rd level creates obvious problems.

2. Items left on corpses, on the ground or even in some containers should disappear after leaving the area and/or resting. Consider it the work of random looters, faction members reclaiming gear, burying the dead etc. This stuff happens in any good PnP campaign and forces players to pick the best loot according to value:weight or inventory space. The rest is crow food.

3. See what can be done about fixing the original NPC looting mechanism. It would be a really entertaining feature if NPCs had some sane parameters for what to take and when to stop... value:weight ratio should apply and looting limited to some reasonable encumbrance level (medium?). Humble NPCs, for all that it solves, leaves you with no easy way to distribute shares (even if you want to) and neuters what should have been a flavorful aspect of the game.

4. You were already considering limited merchant funds. Additionally (or alternatively), prices could decrease as stock goes up and/or store space goes down. Rest spamming for vendor refreshes would be a problem either way, so maybe common gear permanently loses value (the more you sell)... "I'm up to me ears in crossbows, boys. What else you got?"

5. Vendor prices influenced by party reputation with the relevant faction might be interesting. It's already sort of there, for healing services and such.

6. Jaroo makes Raise Dead available at the low, low price of Reincarnation (with Co8). This drastically undercuts the services of a certain group of righteous clerics, even if you're in their good graces. This is an easy fix, but it would be way cooler to have proper Reincarnation (with all the associated race tranny side effects :)).

Troika really implemented a number of uncommonly nice things, at least by crappy modern standards... prices vary by merchant type, individual NPC looting behaviors, faction attitudes etc. It would be great to see these further teased out and utilized to make the game more challenging.

Alrighty, the first element of the slowly-materializing Hardcore Mode is in - Slower Leveling.

As mentioned this greatly reduces XP gains for character level 3 or higher - I estimate around a 40-50% reduction in XP by the end of the Temple compared to a normal run, as well as a longer dwell in the capable but not overpowered level 4-6 range, which should also overlap nicely with Temple levels 1-2. I've tuned this to Co8, since vanilla has a slower leveling curve anyway - but vanilla is "cheating" since it gives monsters extra HD without a commensurate increase in CR (remember those 12HD werewolves with CR3? oh yeah...)

This was also a great opportunity to utilize the old XP balance testing utility I wrote a while back!

Additionally, I reckon that this is a more effective inhibitor to crafting than GP limitations, since the XP costs are now relatively much more expensive, and I think there will be a more pronounced need to hoard XP in order to advance. But then again, 3rd ed D&D gets wacky past level 6 anyway, so maybe not..
